I see folks do it, soaked pancakes and puddled in waffles and it makes me queasy. A little in a small bowl, dip a corner in is plenty. Drown em or none for you?

I rarely eat pancakes or waffles. I like 'em, but 2 hours later I'm shaking like I'm dancing.
I can't stand any fake syrup and don't smother pancakes/waffles when I do eat them. I gingerly pour a bit on, but dang it if it doesn't evaporate. So I pour on little more as I go along. It's possible that the totality of syrup used equals that to the smotherer. But it's not so inelegant😁

I like my syrup, but I apply it to small sections I’m about eat … at a time.
I want plenty on the outside, but don’t want them soggy all the way through.

Just the pancakes/waffles, themselves, are too sweet for me already: they seem more like dessert than breakfast. I had blood sugar issues when I was a kid and had to quit eating sweets. That "re-calibrated" my taste buds so now anything "sugary" tastes too sweet to me. Can't remember ever eating a candy bar since I was 15 or 16.

The syrup pockets in waffles should be filled precisely 3/4s of the way.

Here in Maine, it's maple syrup only. I help my next door neighbor process it and he gives me a half gallon. He gives some to the whole neighborhood(one street) and sells the rest.Geez,it's good(light golden amber) Woot!

His delivery was so awkwardly funny.
Back on topic. It has to be real maple syrup and I like *just enough*. Come over to our place, Sat. morning, and I’ll demonstrate.

If made from a box mix you damn near need to chug the syrup just to get the dang thing down. Every chain restaurant makes them like that, then torture you with those mini syrup packs. No sir, gotta be scratch made for me!

Artistic application of the scientifically determined amount to disappear with the last bite. Usually French toast though, the dog likes the left over batter.

My wife’s uncle owns a couple bakery cafes, and they combine equal parts real maple syrup and melted butter into a syrup for their pancakes and waffles. Never tried at home, but it’s ridiculously good.

I do not drown them but it does take more than a small corner of syrup for me. When they dry out I have to put a little more.

"Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got pancakes back home with syrup on top of them. They're about to hit that critical point of syrup absorption that turns the cakes into a gross paste, and I hate to get all Andy Rooney about it, but I think we all like fluffy discs of cake with syrup on TOP!"

It's why I prefer waffles prepared like insanecooker suggests above. I don't care for Pancake Pâté.

Right now I'm finishing a little plate of "Pearl Milling Company" pancakes (farewell Aunt Jem1m@) with just a touch of Log Cabin Lite and Aldi's Countryside Creamery Spreadable Butter with Canola Oil. And a couple sausages. I'm cheap and easy.

We just had pancakes last night. I never eat them unless I have something more substantial to go along. Last night it was some sausage links and scrambled eggs with cheese and chalula.
So, I'm a hybrid guy on syrup, but if I had to pick I'd say I drown 'em. I like all my food saucy. If it ain't dripping, it's too dry.
I use only real maple syrup and I do one pancake at a time. Never, ever, ever stack. melt butter or peanut butter on top, pour syrup over them so that it puddles on the plate. Then each bite gets dredged through the puddle to ensure it's adequately coated.
My wife makes killer buttermilk pancakes and she has a belgian waffle recipe that comes out light and crispy.
Any other anti-stackers here? I unstack them if I get them at a restaurant.

I like mine with coconut syrup or pure maple. But yeah, it’s a shock on my system.🫨 Gotta make sure to take my metformin with the meal. Dang, we’re getting old. 😪

Pancakes with syrup knock me out in about 90 minutes or so. Oddly, waffles don't.
Yes, I like syrup.

I drown 'em in maple syrup.
While I love waffles, i LOVE french toast! Both get the drowning treatment.

You guys are a bad influence. I haven't had pancakes in at least a year, but the wife and I went out to breakfast today and I just had to have some. Swimming in syrup and all. Of course there was bacon too! The only thing missing that would be bad for me is ice cream. Hmmmmmm...........

This Arkansas gentleman prefers waffles over pancakes with copious amounts of butter, & maple syrup so pure, it speaks to me in a Northeastern accent when I open the lid.
