'Wife and I go out to hear live music from time to time. I am perfectly content/and enjoy "just listening" but the Mrs. loves to dance and expects me to do so...... She is an "aerobic-chickie" (attends aerobic classes) so she dances all the time.
I used to dance more but that coincided with me having a few drinks to loosen-up. I stopped drinking (diet restrictions) a few years ago thus "the urge" is not there anymore.
I will participate - reluctantly....just enough to say that we went dancing.
I have explained to the Mrs. that everyone enjoys music "their own way" and jumping-around on a dance floor does not enhance my experience in the least.
Maybe I need a support group.....
Am I alone feeling this way?

I'm with ya, mikem. I am a poor dancer, and have no desire to prove it.
I tell my wife that I took up guitar so that I could be up there on the stage instead of down on the dance floor.

I am with you 100%. Dancing is the last thing I ever want to do for any reason.

Except for an occasional slow one with my wife, usually preceded by some liquid courage, I don't dance. People sometimes say that, as a bass player, I must have a good sense of rhythm. I tell them it's only above the waist.

I'm with Ricky^, while more occasions than 2 I still think I only need one hand to count my comedic episodes on the dance floor. All slow dancing and I imagine the only thing missing from my form were neck bolts and big boots.
When I go out to listen to a band I want to do it like all guitar players do; stand at the back of the room with my arms crossed.

Oh my I'll take a dentist over dancing. I think I'm short a gene in the dance department.

Not a dancer, except for a slow dance. Fortunately Mrs. Leftee is the same.

When I met Queenie (and she finally decided I was worth paying attention to) she gave me a picture of herself.
On the back of the picture she had written, "The first step is the Two Step".
I guess you can figure the rest from there on your own.

I dislike dancing ... no skill whatsoever. All my rhythm is in my fingers So .... when my wife (who loves dancing) occasionally accompanies me to a gig, she dances to her heart's content. And I know the moment she has told her "groove partner" that the bass player is her husband, because I get a startled glance from him.

All my rhythm is in my fingers Me too. If there was such a thing as finger dancing I would be stellar at it. Put me on a crowded dance floor and I might accidentally kill someone. I'm too big and uncoordinated to get funky in a crowd. I can't count how many times I beaned the singer in the back of the head with my guitar when doing nothing more than kind of bouncing up and down in one spot on stage. I'm dangerous.

Also no kind of dancer at all and quite content with "just listening"------BUT! I have a gal who sometimes wants to dance, and, when she wants to dance she actually wants to dance with me. So I dance with my gal because I am lucky to have a gal to dance with, and these days I do not take that for granted.

Dancing is fun and you get to do it with girls.
Why wouldn't you want to do it ?

My wife is a fabulous dancer but, other than some one-stepping on occasion, I’d managed to dodge the bullet. Then we moved to Texas in 2021 and everything changed. Most Texans learn to dance before they’re potty trained. After three years of practice I’m a passable two-stepper and waltzer and that’s all I need to know. I dance with her and some of her friends and I gotta’ say it’s damn fun and it beats the heck out of staring at my beer or trying to talk over loud music. Each dance partner is different so it’s always a fun challenge to adapt.

I'm happy for people who enjoy dancing, seriously. I don't feel like I'm missing anything. The thing that bothers me is people who don't listen to "I don't dance". "Oh, c'mon.." while they're tugging on your arm. "No, seriously. I don't dance". The persistence can put the non-dancer in a bummer of a position.

I remember my first dance. Sixth or 7th grade, Linda Miller's barn, and the song was "Hey Jude."
Don't recall the girl, though. Poor thing.

Does the US know the term "dad dancing"? It's quite a common insult on UK social media. Often with video.

I used to dance before I got married in 1980 and yes I had to have a few drinks to loosen up. Thankfully Mrs. LTB does not dance!

I'm a horrifically bad dancer. But, oddly enough, I enjoy dancing. I'll only dance if the dance floor is full (so that I'm kinda lost in the shuffle so to speak) and after a drink or to to overcome many natural instinct to not embarrass myself.
My younger daughter (no pics) is in a very serious relationship and I'm expecting a proposal/wedding in the not too distant future. Exciting times, right? Well...my daughter took dance classes and was on a competition dance team through high school. She was also in show choir and was the one they always put front and center because she's slim, attractive and a very. good. dancer.
That all sounds great, right? Yeah....except she wants to do a choreographed father/daughter dance. That sounded cool too, until I remembered that I'm the father in that duo. If we can pull it off, it'll really cool....or it will be a great chance for me to make dork of the year video compilations. When the time comes, I will give it my best shot.

I slow danced with my wife months back at a country music venue our son and his fiancee dragged us to. We were in the midst of her cancer scare and hadn't told anyone yet. It still required alcohol. Just the thought of trying to fast dance (granddad dance?) makes me embarrassed.😳

I was on a river cruise in Bordeaux back in 2018. The last night got a bit crazy....everyone stayed up late and partied in the lounge. The entertainer (an amazing guitar player/keyboard player and singer by the way) let me jam with him a bit, the cruise director sang (and she was really good) and later the staff and guests were all packed on the dance floor. I tweaked my knee and it hurt for months after that.
A pretty wild night considering we were in our 50's and were some of the youngest passengers on the boat. It was a great way to spend our 25th anniversary.

I was a dancer in my high school and young adult years. I was a rocker but could dance to disco tunes because it helped with the ladies. I still dance around the house to get the wife to roll her eyes at me. I haven't danced out in awhile but, if the opportunity presented itself, I'd give it a whirl.

It's not a performance! It's just moving with the music. Sorry, but anyone can step or sway side to side and bob their head in time to the music. Stop thinking of putting on some "look at me" show and just have fun moving to the music, which humans have enjoyed since the dawn of time.
