I also have a MIM Midnight Wine one from about 2000 or 2001 that hasn't been out of it's case for years. Shame on me. (hangs head and sidles out of room)

I have a white 60th anniversary. I didn't look to make a Tele my #1, it just happened. The versatility when gigging can't be beat

LeftyMeister, great looking Tele duo! Love those pick guards. Can’t believe I missed commenting on those yesterday.

My only electric guitar is a 1999 American Standard Tele in Butterscotch. I’ve only owned a few electric guitars, early on a Framus, then about 35 years later the Tele, a buddy of mine was hard up one Christmas and I bought his PRS to help him through the Holidays. It was a very nice guitar but it’s like it had no soul. I traded it for my guild Starfire, which has become my number one bass.
Mostly I play acoustic, but I’ll pull out the tele from time to time. I have an old Fender Vibro Champ I play it through.

I bought one of the AO 60's in burst when they first came out, great Teles and the PV64 pickups are phenomenal. I also started assembling my own Strats and Teles a couple of years ago. I like neck specs that Fender will never make...and I can match that with things like Charlie Christian pickups.

So I have a question. The problem I have with teles is the big time shift between pickups. The neck p/u is so bass heavy and the bridge p/u is so bright I always had to struggle to get an amp setting that was good for both. Led to a lot of fiddle finger activity. What did you do?

I watched a youtube interview video yesterday with Steve Cropper. He said he just always played on the bridge and neck pickups together. It just worked best for him that way, and was quiet during recording. Hard to argue with one of the all-time Tele-masters. (But I like the bridge pup alone, myself).

I think they are the best guitar ever made. Right now I have 2:. A Baja and a Muddy Waters. I'm in the process of putting together one with TV Jones filtertrons.

Ricky,
I had a 52ri that I put a bill Lawrence Tall Boy in the neck. A Nocaster in the bridge.
Everyone that has played it said it was the nicest sounding tele. 5hose 2 pickups meet your concerns.

So I have a question. The problem I have with teles is the big time shift between pickups. The neck p/u is so bass heavy and the bridge p/u is so bright I always had to struggle to get an amp setting that was good for both. Led to a lot of fiddle finger activity. What did you do? First I bring the neck pickup bass strings side way down. Then I bring the neck pickup treble strings side down a touch. Similar on the bridge pickup sides but keeping the bridge pickup louder. Then adjust pole pieces if possible for each spring's output. (I prefer the treble strings to be louder than the bass strings and G B E to be of equal output.) I always turn the tone knob back to the exact point where it takes off the bridge pickup brightness. Beyond that it moves on to pickup replacement. For instance, a Twisted Tele neck pickup adds brightness and clarity..."openess"...to that position. Then there are numerous replacement bridge pickups which have more snarl and less twang. Anyway, I have three Teles currently and that's how I get mine to sound. For me there is no better electric model and they are well worth the tonal fine-tuning.

What is that part at the end? A b bender? Yes. Also the top lever pulls up to lower 6th string E to D. Add my Will Ray finger slide and I'm ready to make some "noise!". lol I love Tele's... my favorite guitar followed by a Strat. It also has two Lace Sensors in the neck wired to get separate or together series/parallel. The bridge is a Hemi I can split and also combine with the two neck pickups in various configurations. My own Frankenstein wiring system that I have a hard time remembering how "exactly" it works! Lol The two pots are push/pull also. It is a MIM neck and body and compared to my super light Thinline - this guitar is HEAVY!

I was always a Strat guy but early in the internet era, when I'd joined the TDP, I got interested in Teles for the first time ever and bought a sunburst MiM Tele. I ultimately broke it up and sold the body and parts but kept the neck. I got a cherry burst ash body from WD Music, a reissue neck from Fender and put in '52 RI parts. I later bought a butterscotch '52 RI but sold that too. Then Fender gave me a CC Nocaster which, while lovely, I didn't bond with and sold it to an FDPer. Then I built one using '52 RI parts, a StewMac blonde body, and the old Mex neck. Finally, a few years ago, I bought one of the Roadworns on ebay from a guy who replaced all the bits with proper aftermarket Fender pups, knobs, Bakelite guard and switch tip. So I currently have four in the collection. Problem is, all I ever play are acoustics these days.

Is that a Duster or a Dart? I had a Dart with the same hood scoop, I shoe horned a 440 into it. It would lift the front wheels off the ground. It was a bear to drive, but plenty of fun. A '73 Duster with a 340 and a six-pak. I have a bunch of Teles, most of which I built. The only genuine Fender in the bunch is this CS '63 in Lake Placid blue.

2003 Highway 1 purchased new. Tri Burst. Maple board. Upgrades to include jack cup, vintage tuners and round string tree, Gotoh 6 saddle to spread the strings and for accurate intonation, Bill Lawrence Keystone Pickups made by Bill himself.
I bought an American duplicate about a year later thinking I needed an upgrade. 30 days use told me the Highway 1 was "my" guitar and gifted the American to my gransdson.
That's when I upgraded the Highway 1 which further improved its playability. It is a perfect match for my Blues Jr.

Bill, what do we have to do to fix that? The fact that you don't have a Tele and you're still hanging out in here speaks volumes.

I have a mutt "tele" I modded years back, ash body, skunk stripe maple neck, it has an early version of the Fender Nocaster Custom Shop pickup set in it and a 4 way switch which gives the option of series or parallel when both pickups are selected. It is a bit of a clownburst however, but I don't care, it plays and sound great.

I have a Robert Cray Strat that I got cheap, that I rarely play, maybe I could convert it into a Tele. I don't plan to buy any more guitars, I have two or three that get played, and my Tele, eventually, wasn't one of them. I still like the looks of 'em though!

Hi! I always TRIED to like Teles, but it seems I never found a good one - until recently. Bought a "Road Worn" from a friend and I cannot keep from playing it. The first time I took it to rehearsal with the band I was stunned at the AMOUNT of sound it put out I had a couple of Teles before, but they usually sounded thin and uninspiring - this one just grabs you and makes your head shake. Seems like I got a good one at last Our bass-player loves it, too! cheers - C.
