Here's a link. I played bass for this guy in the 80's.

I cannot play with a thumb pick to save my life! I have tried many times but, after playing with a flat pick and bare fingers for so many years it just won't happen. Someday I'll take another run at it. I would really like to learn to play acoustic with finger picks. I have a soft spot for steel guitar as well so the finger picks would help with that too. By then I probably won't remember where I put them and I'll have to buy some more.

A few years back, arthritis was causing me pain in the big knuckle of my picking hand. I tried Herco thumbpicks with the wide flatpick. Helped a bit with the knuckle problem, but I never mastered true thumbpicking styles. Went to hybrid picking with flatpick and two fingers. Get better accuracy it sounds like I'm really playing faster than I am.

I can hit the string I want when I want. It works better for me than my naked thumb and gives me a more consistant sound with the nails of the other four fingers .

Just fine on banjo, guitar it's either flat pick or no pick

I'm comfortable with thumb picks. I'll use them Travis-picking and claw-style playing. I'm a hybrid picker with a flat pick, so it just depends on my mood. That said, I wish I could get a grip on using a thumb pick like flat pick (as your friend does in the video.) That's been quite a hurdle for me.

I use to work on some Chet songs and used one quite a bit. I still do depending what I am doing as far as the song. I keep my nails a little long also so I use my 2 and 3 finger along with a flat pick and 1 2 and 3rd fingers with the thumb pick. I used them enough that I don't use my thumb with out the thumb pick. However I cannot strum with the thumb pick.

I got a lot better when I discovered Herco thumbpicks. It doubles as a flat pic, just attached to your thumb. Once I got the hang of it, I found it indispensable for fingerstyle or hybrid finger/flat style. Try it! I like Medium or heavy are my pref.

Can't use one. I'm a hack anyhow, but my choices are limited to 2, a Fender X tra heavy pick, new, as I wear them down fast. Or fingers, and I just feel my way as which to use for what string(s).

I like thumb picks. When I'm in a parade I don't want to drop a flat pick while marching. And they are much easier to control while playing in subfreezing temperatures
