Boy, I bet that big-bodied B50(?) is a beast to play. Is it fretless?

It is, has a really good tone too. A couple weeks ago I put couple JJB Electronics transducers in it. It want’s to feed back really bad, I cut out a feedback buster for the sound hole and it tamed it.

Started out playing 6 strings (and I still do) but eventually found my way into playing bass most groups I’ve been with. Not the most flashy player out there (can’t do slaps, pops, and other bass playing tricks) but I feel most relaxed when I’m playing bass vs playing rhythm or lead.

"Wow, SRV played 13s?!! How did he do it?!!" Wondered that myself. Just playing them for any length of time wears me out but for him to play them with not only good tone and technic but lightning speed too was incredible! He tuned down, didn't he?

I have a Squire jazz bass my youngest used when he was playing. He quit, so it came to me. Last night my grandson started with the mandolin, then the flat top, then asked what the one I'm the corner was. I brought the bass out for the 1st time in years, kinda wondering g how it had held up. Great action and still in tune. Wow.

Started on 6 and then 12 string guitars then transitioned to bass and haven't looked back, I too do not do slaps and pops but try to have good technic at what I do.

I normally play a Line 6 Variax 5 string. I also have advanced, degenerative arthritis. I can’t tolerate a shoulder strap. My instruments are set up to use a Slinger Hip Strap. I’ve been using a Slinger for over 4 years now. I had a terrible flare up in my left hand a couple years ago, after a 6 hour biker gig. (Two 10 minute breaks in that 6 hours.) I couldn’t stretch my fingers to play a 34” scale bass for a couple months. So I bought a 28.8” scale Ibanez Mikro 5 string bass. I immediately modded it with two Carvin humbucking Jazz bass pickups, a three band active EQ preamp, blend control and made a pickguard for it. Gotta have the tort, and y’all know what I mean. I always bring the shorty Ibanez with me, in case my left hand gives me crap. It eases the stretches and gets me through the night. It’s a great bass, and I even like the stock strings. Rumor is that they’re made by D’Addario and I use Pro Steels on my other basses.

I can’t slap and pop at all. Back in the 70s I took a fall off a 6 story building. A few parts of me never recovered. the radial head in my right arm had to be fused. With out that joint the wrist will not turn. A few years later I broke my neck in a auto accident. Paralyzed right arm but my fingers and Tricep still works.
I’ve had and am still having an interesting life. Kind of ironic, I am seriously left handed. I had no option when I started playing and learned the violin right hand style. Either one of these two accidents would have ended my playing if I had started lefty.
