I have been listening to a UK band called Frost. 4, 40-something guys from across the pond. I have been listening to them on and off since 2008 when their first CD came out. They have a new "Live in the studio" DVD out where they play songs from most of their albums. Monster players and prog all day long. This is not the prog metal stuff that is very popular in the circles these days. It is very heavily keyboard-centric. Great melodies and arrangements. Reminiscent of early 80's Genesis.

I remember them... I've been on a Kansas kick over the past four weeks or so.
Working on all those great guitar fills and breaks too. The tempo changes are *moida*! Somebuddy HEP meh!

I like some of their '80s output, but the real prog Genesis, for me, was from the beginning of the band up through W&W, but, mostly the Gabriel era (saw them many times back in those days ).

That's what I was referring to. Not necessarily Genesis per se. Do a search on YouTube for a song entitled "Hyperventilate" by Frost. Yeah...THAT'S prog.

I have 801 Live on in the background. Saw Simon Phillips this past Friday night, might have been his first band he played with. 801 was the remnants of Roxy Music killer version of Tomorrow Never Knows playing right now

Is "prog" like Yes or I am too old to participate in this thread?

Is "prog" like Yes or I am too old to participate in this thread? Actually you can trace prog rock back to Frank Zappa's Freakout or even Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys. Most say it began with King Crimson In the Court of the Crimson King. So your probably covered

I guess prog rock has different meanings. I would have never considered Pet Sounds as prog rock. Maybe King Crimson. I had that album on 8-track and used to get stoned and listen to it (and a few other 8-tracks) sitting in my car ('68 Cougar XR7) in my driveway. Good times.

Yes, prog is like Yes. That sounds redundant. I loved those guys. I learned a lot about playing guitar from learning Steve Howe riffs. I wore my dad's reel to reel tape recorder out slowing Howe's riffs down so I could figure them out.

Steven Wilson is a must see. His solo stuff and his work with Porcupine Tree is amazing.

My daughter introduced me to Opeth and Porcupine Tree -- both I really like. I'm listening to "Signify" right now.

My friend Bryan Beller (bass for Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, The Aristocrats, Mike Keneally, Dethklok -- yeah, he's good) put out an album late last year that I absolutely love. It's actually a double-album, and the vinyl version looks so cool! Every cut is unique and well-done, and the album just "sounds" amazing. Highly recommended, even if he weren't my friend! bryanbeller.com/

I used to be heavily into Prog back in the late '70's - early '80's. Gong, Gentle Giant, Nektar, Yes, Genesis, etc. I haven't listened to any "prog" for years, but I think it's maybe time I gave it another go. ;-)

I've owned those other Yes albums for better than 45 years now. As I get older, however, the less I like some of their music. I'm more an acoustic jazz guy most of the time and tend towards the mellower end of things. I saw them live once but I can't remember where. Maybe the LA Forum?

I like some Yes music but some not so much. I did see them open for the Allman their 1st tour after Duane died. I was impressed.

Anybody seen Umphry's McGhee? I would consider them Prog with a mess of funk thrown in. And what a light show. I think I got a contact high just sitting in the audience too.

I should've mentioned the title of the Bryan Beller album: "Scenes From The Flood". Really remarkable album. Favorite of 2019.

I like an early 70's band called Rare Bird. "Epic Forest " and "As Your Mind Fies By" are my favorite albums.
I also like 70's music from "Baker Gurvitz Army" Ginger Baker, Paul & Adrian Gurvitz. Cool album cover art on these.
I think I'm a progger..
