I have a collection of odd/off the radar bands/albums mostly 1960's early 1970's that I've played the heck out of for decades. Rarely would you have heard these played except on late night stoner FM stations back in the day. All of these are solid offerings that have stood the test of time for me.
My top 3 wow must haves: Joe Byrd And The Field Hippies - The American Metaphysical Circus Fifty Foot Hose - Cauldron White Noise - An Electric Storm
Several honorable mentions: Maypole - The Real (1970) Banchee (1969 S/T) Alamo (1971 S/T) The Baroques - Purple Day Isotope- Illusion (the old Air Beep Pocket Pager commercial used a cut from this) Aphrodite's Child- 666 ( All The Seats Were Occupied is a must listen!) It's A Beautiful Day ( the White Bird/Hot Summer Day LP) Tempest (1973 S/T with an early Allen Holdsworth tearing it up on guitar) Hammer (San Francisco label S/T 1970) Fields (1969 S/T) Blodwyn Pig - A Head Rings Out (Dear Jill was played on late night FM for some time)
Finally, a really odd one with some big names on it. I saw him live doing his rap back in the day, none other than: Timothy Leary, You Can Be Anyone This Time Around (1970), a very cool, spacey album fitting for certain circumstances) ( With Hendrix on bass, Buddy Miles drums, Stephen Stills/John Sebastian on guitar!)
What have you for must have oddities?

Ahead rings out gets listened to here some. Me likey. When it came out I caught Dear Jill several times on late night FM, but never heard the name of the song or band. It took some time for me to finally find out who it was and get a copy. The silly LP cover is a real hoot!

I love weird/quirky/offbeat music as much as I love rock, blues, and jazz. A few off the top of my head that get regular play here on Planet Peegoo are
- Pure Guava (Ween) - A Fierce Pancake (Stump) - The King and Eye (The Residents) - Bad As Me (Tom Waits) - My I'm Large (The Bobs) - The Man From Utopia (Frank Zappa) - Greatest Hits (Spike Jones) - I've Been Everywhere (Gene Chadbourne) - Trout Mask Replica (Captain Beefheart) - Super Taranta (Gogol Bordello)

"- The Man From Utopia (Frank Zappa)"
I'm a long time FZ fan -- when I saw this record being shat upon by the critics back then, I naturally had to go out and buy it. I won't say it's Frank's best work but it's fun to listen to and the sound quality of the recording is very good. Sometimes I'll pull it out just to listen to "Jazz Discharge Party Hats" and "Moggio".

R. Stevie Moore is a hoot; Ku Klux Glam and Games & Groceries as well as his Beatles covers are relatively accessible. He also does a great cover of Along Comes Mary. The king of home recording...

Looks like some random guy at an unnamed outdoor concert just feelin' the music and going with it. It's really a pretty good match for Buick 6.
Speaking of Buick 6, another one of my faves is Electric Six. They make some pretty intense music and combine rock, pop, punk, jazz, soul, disco and funk. Here's one of their harder-edged tunes (unofficial video):

One I play a lot is Goodnight Moon by Shivaree. It's from an album with the memorable title: "I Oughtta Give You a Shot in the Head for Making Me Live in This Dump". Maybe they were bigger in the US than over here? Goodnight Moon was on the soundtrack of one of the Kill Bill movies. Such a good song (if lyrically weird), vocal and guitar particularly.
