If you only use your W7 machine off-line I can see little concern. The group who _must_ upgrade now are corporations that have regulatory compliance requirements (FINRA, HIPAA, SOX etc). MSFT has them over a barrel as they must use supported systems. MSFT does offer these corporations extended support as part of a very costly support agreement. By very costly I mean they start at $100,000 most larger corps pay well into 7 figures. If you are a personal user of W7 and use the system online you will become increasingly vulnerable to security problems as time passes. I wouldn't risk it long term. You can get an upgrade to W10 for about $100 if you look around. You may be able to upgrade for free using the info in the link below - but I cannot vouch for this information: www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2020/01/15/how-to-upgrade-to-windows-10-for-free-in-2020/#2799d6ad716aK4 if you need a cost effective upgrade I would consider a used / refurb PC. My last laptop was a Dell refurb. A top of the line Latitude model that was a year or so old at the time I bought it. I've had that in daily use until today (new PC day!), albeit with a few upgrades.

For their time Windows XP and Windows 7 the best Microsoft offerings.
The worst was Windows 3.1, ME and Vista
Windows 10 Pro ok but not as smooth operating as Windows 7 was.
I buy Windows OEM version for all my installs since Windows 98

Got switched from 7 to 10 at work. There is much weeping and gnashing of teeth in the cube farm.

Got switched from 7 to 10 at work. There is much weeping and gnashing of teeth in the cube farm. The biggest issue is the change in how to bring apps and other items up. I have had to find different ways to do things. Rather than spending time trying to find things like Notepad, I.E., Control panel, System Information etc. I just type those names in the start window to bring them up. When I find them, I drag a shortcut to the desktop or the taskbar

Good to know, K4, as I use AVG.
I bought an EHD and moved my stuff over to it. It was cheap enough (2 TB!) and pretty easy. Haven't switched computers yet, have procrastinated because I like this old one so well.

I never understood the issues that some people have with 10. It works fine for me. The only thing I really had to learn is where everything is located.

You must not have done the last update. Once you do the update option goes away.

In my case, and I suspect with others as well it's a legacy issue with other software and hardware. I've invested a lot of time and money building a recording system (Pro Tools 10 and numerous plugins) that isn't supported by Windows 10. What further complicates it for me is that all newer versions of Pro Tools are by subscription, and as a hobbyist not making money I refuse to pay.

You must not have done the last update. Once you do the update option goes away. No, it was Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Security Essentials - KB2310138 (Version 1.307.3106.0), dated 1/26/2020. There were a couple of others, too.

You must have a different version than I. I don't see that KB Although the KB number is static, I believe the version number (1.307.3106.0) has been superseded by a few others. Can't really say , for sure, as I quit keeping close track when my Win7 (Home) update stopped functioning correctly . I now have a machine running the Win10 OS so am REALLY out of the Win7 "loop".
