I just picked one up today from our local Guitar Center as an upgrade to my old Vox AD30VT. The one with the single 12" and 4 programmable channels. Okay, I'm convinced: This thing gets just about all the sounds I want- it rocks. And this after all the tube amps I have and the amp expander attenuator. Well done Boss.

I also had an AD30VT and, when it died, replaced it with the Katana 50. The Katana has great core tones but I do think the Vox had better onboard FX.

Nothing wrong with that at all, Mark.
To the ears, many modern SS amps are so darn close to tube amps they make plenty of sense for more reasons than just tone. They're cheaper, lighter in weight, and virtually maintenance-free.
Welcome to the Fyoochum!

Congrats! There’s no shame in that purchase.

The Kat amps are winners...no doubts.

I have the Katana Artist and I couldn't be happier. I am also using a Line6 M9 through the effects loop. The best tones I've ever gotten.

The factory effects don't include a rotary simulator or univibe. However, the Tone Studio app does. I created a couple patches so I can call them up on the amp.

Katanas are awesome. Playing through my Katana 50 in my profile pic right there to the left.

I just hauled an AC15 to a church conference and as I was carrying it downstairs and into the vehicle I’m thinking “it may be time for Katana”.

I have a buddy who gigs with one and it sounds pretty darn good to me. He was a tube purist up until getting the Katana.

This thread is giving me GAS. I don't play my tube amps much anymore. When the mood strikes to play, I usually only have 20-30 minute sessions. I really like the sounds that come out of my tiny Yamaha THR5, but I always hear about these Katanas. I guess I'll have to give one a go someday.

Having gone through a few MicroCubes I have thought a bit about the Katana 50. Gotta be lighter than my DRRI which now sits in a place of honor in my closet, and better sounding than my bedroom amp, the Blackstar HT1.

I was considering a Roland Cube 30R until I saw the Katana series due to people posting about them on this forum.

Off topic: How is the expander working out for you? And how are you using it?

Has anyone tried out the 'acoustic' model setting with an acoustic/electric? How does it sound?

Thanx LTB! I have been considering getting a Katana head to power a 15" cab I built. I recently bought my first A/E and it would be nice to have it for the acoustic too.

I previously only tried acoustic channel using electric guitar when I first got it. I can say now Electric doesn't sound good on Acoustic channel and Acoustic does sound good on electric but given the correct instrument on correct channel is awesome.

I can't believe what this thread has started. I had no clue about this amp, really. Now I want one, and may have just made a deal for one. A couple of weeks ago, I posted a question about Music Man amps and was ready to make a deal on one in great shape. Can't pick it up due to the you-know-what. Am I actually going to go from a Music Man 112RD 65 to a Katana? Discuss if you care to, because I am obviously a mess.
This virus is taking a toll...

If it was me......... I'd get the Katana.
Especially for playing at home.

Ha! Of course, I'm thinking about ways to do that as we speak...
I know, in my heart of hearts, that the Katana is all I really need, that it will serve my purposes just fine. (And before this post had no clue about them.)
And right now, I'm home recovering from disc surgery in my back, and should probably consider keeping a heavy-ass (the Music Man) amp. Ahh, white-man's problems during a pandemic!
...And oh, sorry to hijack this thread.

Back to topic, the Katana "makes sense." The Music Man is more of a "whim" thing in my book. But, still...you would not likely lose any money with the Music Man. It is somewhat of a collector amp, in addition to being a great tone machine; hard to resist.

I use my Katana 50 for weekly open jams instead of my 18 watt. It’s loud enough, sounds fine to me and is only twenty something pounds. It’s really a practical amp

Same here. Open mics I generally bring my Katana 50, a Tele, and a cable.
