At $109, that Vox Pathfinder looks like it's worth a try.

A year or so ago I purchased a Squire Jaguar bass from a Craigslist offering and it came with an Ampeg B108 bass amp, it’s 20 watts. Used they go for $80 or so. Not bad, decent tone with three knobs for eq. Just tried it out on my Yamaha CSF1M parlor and my 30”scale fretless roasted bass. It Sounds good.

As a follow up....
Fender Rumble 500 V3.-- So I picked up the Fender Rumble 500 for upcoming show. Expected it to be outside with a full drum kit. So I wanted the power to cut through any situation with a full band and heavy hand guitar player. But the weather turned and we moved to a smaller indoor venue with maybe 20 people. The FR 500 sounded great but I decided I might need a 2nd bass amp to accommodate that kind of setting.
Fender Rumble 40 V3--That led me to do the research for the smallest amp that still has a 'big sound'. The footprint of the 100 is not that much smaller than the 500 so I looked at the 25 and 40. A little noodling confirmed the 40w fits the bill. I have to say I love the 18'lbs and manageable footprint. I have not gigged with it yet but as a practice amp it is just about perfect.
I'm keeping both. I think I'm done for awhile.

I mentioned earlier that I wasn’t impressed with the 25, but the 40 is very nice and manageable. your set up pretty good now, any larger gigs you can run an XLR to the PA

I just ordered a Rumble 40. Amazon has them for $199.99, and they’ll split the payment over 5 months with zero interest.
I felt like I ought to wait for tomorrow to see if Prime Day yields a better price, but they also offer free returns (a big deal for an amp), so if they do drop the price, I’ll order another and return the higher priced one.

Seems it will be more amp than I ever need, so that just about right.

That’s why I have a half stack.

That’s double the stack I’d ever need. At least.

The 40 is nice, just a good solid bass amp. I like a clean sound, having a few extra watts gives you a nice range of volume and tone without over diving the circuits. Any venue that is acoustic in nature, or a small restaurant/club, this amp would be right at home. It’s nice to have the option even if you don’t plan on performing with it.
I never considered performing with an acoustic guitar, or electric for that matter, still I was asked by a close friend to play “There is Love” when they walked down the aisle.
I like head room, hate the distortion. My bass rig is capable of 900 watts at 4Ω, 500 @ 8Ω. Probably never use more than 200.

I am still waiting for the right moment to bring it home. As far as the amp goes, not only is it not cheaper on Prime Day, the option to finance it over 5 months is no longer available. So i made the right move.

The amp arrived today and I am not even taking it out of the box. Too huge for my purposes. I need something far more compact.
Back it goes.

Did you open it up? I ask because it probably shipped with styrofoam corners making the box bigger.

Devils hitch I should have looked into before ordering it. I have ordered a Rumble 15, also with free returns, so I can check it out.

mfitz, Wow, a Rumble 40 is too big and you're going smaller? I wouldn't go to a Rumble 15 or even a 25. I played a Rumble 25 and yes, you will get enough sound out of it to practice by yourself, but it was was severely lacking in low-frequency ooomph. My bass sounded like a guitar, not a bass. I just couldn't get it to sound decent, and I don't require a lot of bass. It might be OK to use to practice by yourself, but that's all.

Its almost guaranteed that all I will ever do is practice at home, 90% of the time it will be without even taking the amp out, and should the Red Hot Chili Peppers ever need me to fill in, I have no problem buying a bigger amp!

We want the update when you return the 15 and reorder the 40. But then I fully admit it. I am not normal. I have a Twin Reverb as my living room amp to noodle while watching television.

There’s no chance of it, I physically do not have room for the 40. I know exactly where and in which closet it will be stored and it needs to be small.

It might be a good thing you didn’t try the 40, I’ll be interested in what you think of the 15 or 25, maybe they have improved since I purchased my 15.
I upgraded the Rumble 15 with a much better speaker. Plugged it in and haven’t used it since, that was about 5 or 6 years ago. It’s not worth the cost of shipping. I’ve been spoiled over the years with high end equipment, in many ways, with the bass, the amplifier is more important than the instrument. I often use a $150 Squire Infinity Bronco for gigs and rehearsals, it’s light and after I set it up plays great, I did drop a Guild Bi-Sonic pickup in it
I have two small bass amplifiers but they cost nearly as much as my professional rigs, the Phil Jones Double Four and the GK112. I pulled out the Rumble 15 this morning to see what it sounds like with an acoustic guitar, maybe it’ll sound better than with the bass. I can always remove the good speaker and put the Fender speaker back in, give it to a beginner that needs an amp.

I am 100% certain your assessment of the Rumble 15 is accurate, I’m just guessing that it will be sufficient for my needs. I already know how this goes, even if I get bass playing to stick, I’m still going to not take out the amp. I do a lot of my playing while my family is asleep, so that makes the probability that much lower.
The little $50 Gorilla amp I had 25 years ago would have been perfect for my needs.

Traded my friend a Dean Markley guitar amp, which was definitely more expensive, for the Gorilla bass amp and a Phantom bass. Had some fun with that setup for a few years before the bass developed issues with both electronics cutting out and warping of the neck. I believe I sold it as is for $50 on eBay, maybe 25 years ago.
