I don’t really see a desperate need but maybe an “Other Instruments” forum could catch discussions on everything from Bagpipes to the didgeridoo. All the non-traditional R&R instruments combined could become an active/large subforum. People looking for information on these exotics could possible find knowledge among our widely divers group of musicians, and drummers “o) I like it. Ditto. I just ventured into Roland’s TD ‘V-drums’ and would love to see if there are any other utility infielder here (competent at many instruments; master of none). 😆

Another vote for an ‘electronics tech’ specific area, to cover issues/repairs/mods for amps and electronics. Maybe split the workshop into ‘workshop - guitars’ and ‘workshop - electronics’?

I actually wanted to submit a post requesting guidance on condenser mics for home recording. In the old days this would have gone on the Home Recording Forum.
Where should I post that now?
Or should I try a specialist forum?

I’m not really sure, I guess we don’t have a true spot for that.
I’ll add a section for recording, in general, not just home. Anyone who does studio recording may want a place too.
How’s “The Recording Room” for a name?

I am going to crack open an amp build thread in the Workshop forum soon. I wonder if we don’t ride, for a while, with one Workshop and see how it goes. The old guitar mods and amp mods forums weren’t nearly as busy as they once were.

Thanks for responding so quickly. ‘The Recording Room’ sounds just dandy.
I will get my query up shortly.

I think giving lefties their own forum is a good idea. There are at least two threads in the guitar forum. As a lefty myself (but not guitar, golf, baseball, scissors, etc.), we always feel like second class citizens out in the world.

In the end there were 4 of us posting. I don’t know that I would like a lefty forum, these days. Let’s see if the other lefties chime in.

As I don't participate in them anyway, it matters little to me. Perhaps just starting a Lefty thread from time to time is the better way to handle it. How many lefties have joined so far? Any clue?

How many lefties have joined so far? Any clue? I count 8. What helped buoy The FDP lefty forum over the last year were the righties who would pop in for a look and comment. That will likely happen more, here, if we leave us lefties in with the righties. We promise we won’t cross the streams.

I did an informal poll of lefties to see if they wanted a separate forum (Leftee's Guitar -n- Giraffe Emporium?) after one PMed me to ask about it. Aside form that one guy, the answer was unanimously that it wasn't necessary. I think whether left handed or right handed, we're all doing the same thing, it doesn't need to be separate just because they are doing it upside down and backwards.

Personally, I think it's confusing and counterintuitive to mix guitar and amp review and/or service boards. Amp service and repair attracts a different crowd as does guitar repair and service. JMO...

Willie and jazzguy make good points. I could see it being wise to give amps their own forum which might include guitar and bass amps as well as repairs. Willie was one of the amp gods on the FDP and his thinking is certainly worth considering.

I’ve been thinking about this also. I think I may post a separate forum for amps, and split “The Workshop” somehow as well.
Mostly because I don’t like reading about amps lol.

I’ll add two amp forums and do some re-organizing of the boards. Tomorrow at the latest, maybe later tonight if I have a moment.

I don’t think I see a need to separate out different types of guitars into different sub forums. But I’ll keep an eye on it.

Any chance of a separate section for zithers ? Just kidding. 😆 You’re doing a great job Mike. Thanks for all you do.

Can't speak for the Supreme Giraffe but is this version of Moe's not more of a catch all than the FDP's version? We sort of separated out Moe's on the FDP as a pay to play forum for much of the FDP's life. MT2 is a very different model. That said, if Mike wanted to add a Misc. forum too, I'd be OK with it but maybe make it specific to gear related stuff like the FDP and keep Moe's as the "getting to know each other better" forum.

I’m just not sure what would belong there. The guitars thread covers guitars, bass for basses, other for other instruments. I feel like that should be good.
I still think more people hanging out in fewer forums will lead to more conversation.
