LMBO @ Taildragger!
I like Tall's suggestion of keeping it simple like The Music Zone, Think of the popularity of The Gear Page. Folks have found it just fine.
Since I've never watched a single episode of the Simpsons, the Moes reference was always lost on me. I realize it was a tavern in the cartoon, but I have no reference for it. Like the FDP, we could leave Moes as a subforum with a more universal site name. Afterall, the FDP was about much more than just Moes.

"Moe's Guitar and Whammy Bar" is a good one. Moe connects to the FDP legacy, Guitar says what we're about, Whammy Bar is witty. I wouldn't worry about a WB subforum title elsewhere; I'm pretty confident that an IP/trademark/copyright attorney would agree.

I am curious. Who owns the FDP copyright? Was this somehow in conjunction with Fender?

Personally, I think the current name is fine.
As to who owns the copyright on the Fender Discussion Page and FDP names, I do through my business entity.

I think what we have now is just fine. Members meet others and pass on the site to new blood. Moes is an evolution of the great place we had with Chris and it was truly an exceptional forum for both technical expertise and community. A forum is only as good as its members regardless of the name. We've got the whole crew here of familiar friends so its like we're all just getting together at a new pizza place and the fact that Chris is with us too is a plus. It would be great if we could use FDP but its not necessary. The fact that we have Moe's connects us with the past in a nice way without angst or complication. The name Moe's is a tribute to Chris and a marker for the new chapter.

^ This is a good point. I’m still not really convinced we need to solicit new members anyway. There’s plenty of good conversations at the moment.

Mike's Place
Subconsciously.....I think most former FDP members refer to it that way. Just my 2 cents worth.

Edited to delete Gearmongers Anonymous Forum because, after some research, that acronym could be too controversial. I just didn't know.

Maybe Moe's without the Tavern part. People might think it's a drinking forum.
Or Moe and Mike's!

"Moe's Guitar and Whammy Bar" really nails it as a name to describe the overall forum here. Let's anyone interested know that this place is music oriented but also with a community vibe. Gets my vote for a new moniker.
"Moe's Tavern" is a great name for the sub forum meant for general discussion. Preserves the FDP tradition. By all means keep that there.
and that's my $.02 on the matter!

I suggest retaining "Moe's Tavern" as it is a direct connect to what, and who, we are/were.
Whammy Bar is overly used, there is a Whammy Bar here in Grants Pass Oregon.. Just do a search for bars named Whammy Bar and or derivatives. And just another thought...." Whammy Bar and Moe's Tavern" et al are too long..
If new members are alienated, their loss. And what about alienating long time members who are, in fact, Moe's Tavern.?
A strong vote to leave the name as is. Moe's Tavern.
Succinct, memorable, comfortable, traditional.

if you really want to attract outsiders I think you should go in the direction where there seems to be interest. I suggest a new name would be best if it was somewhat targeted in the direction of country guitar. The young metal shredders and SRV wannabe's seems to have shifted their interest towards chicken picken country guitar. I think a name using reference to twang, Telecaster, or "chicken pickin'" would attract more people and be more interesting. Also think we need a sub-forum about PLAYING GUITAR, like Tab, Theory, and Technique. I recently joined a couple of Facebook groups called "Country Guitar" and "Chicken Picken" and both groups are growing like crazy. James Burton and John Jorgensen just joined. People are posting their progress, their prowess, their gear questions, and anything to do with guitar. Lots of blues enthusiasts around there too.

It needs to be generic. Not all play Fender, Gibson, PaulReed Smith, There are as many different brands out there. My opinion is Moe’s Tavern sounds like one has to frequent a bar to belong. Moe’s is a time honored name and should stay. If you are happy with just us that know , keep it as is. If you want to attract new change it but keep it generic. Food for thought
