Mostly play Fender guitars and amps. I'm 71 and have had a guitar since 1964. Got serious in 1975.

I just watched a film about SRV last night -- for some reason, cashing in your chips in a helicopter crash seems more wrong than normal.
Not a big fan but sad to see a young guy go out like that. RIP.

To my MOE’S friends... STAY OUT OF HELICOPTERS!
I’ve lost two buddies in helicopter crashes and witnessed another helicopter crash that killed 11 soldiers (threw a blade).
There are so many SINGLE POINT FAILURE areas on a helicopter that will absolutely kill you.
I’d rather face drunks on the highway than fly in choppers.
To Kobe and his daughter, RIP.

Seeing this on FB, I thought it was another one of those "famous person dies" stories that gets reported as truth and is later proven to be false. Finding out it was real, for some reason, just took the air out of me. Can't say I know exactly why, as I never followed the Lakers all that closely. R.I.P.

When I was a kid, and he was still young, I wanted to go on a helo ride. He scared the crap ottame. He was flying at tree top height through Tennessee ridges and valleys. I questioned him about the aerobatics and he replied that everything he did was absolutely safe. He said he wouldn't endanger anyone's life but his own.
I have much respect for his flying skills. I cannot even fly a remote control chopper.

While in the Navy, we had an H-3 go down in our task group without warning. It sunk so fast, it was never seen again.

While I was in the USAF, sometimes we had to be flown out to the missile sites due to snow and ice on the roads (roads closed). I was in my early 20's then and it was exciting. Most of the chopper pilots had just returned from Vietnam and they scared us a few times on landing. I don't have to fly in choppers anymore so I am probably safe for awhile.

As I'm sure most following this story know, the death toll seems to be 9. What hasn't been easy to find is who else was on the chopper. According to AP: "Among those killed were John Altobelli, head coach of Southern California’s Orange Coast College baseball team, his wife, Keri, and daughter, Alyssa, who played on the same team as Bryant’s daughter, said his brother, Tony, who is the sports information director at the school." apnews.com/98f3978b392cbd3d9143529267b1f1eeAn absolute tragedy for the families involved.
