Think I've seen my last movie in a theater.

I completely agree, just like Chrysler and Harley, let it die.

I did go see Ford VS Ferrari.
Had I known I would suffer through 30 minutes of previews and ads, I would have avoided it or come late.

And the popcorn with yellow dyed coconut oil was disgusting and the DP was watered down.

Only part of the experience that has improved IMO, is buying the tickets on line which means you no longer need to stand in line to do so.

I see that "Chickentails" is indeed a thing here. That is one strong language filter if you can't mention a mixed drink!

My wife always reminds me "The show will not start for at least 15 minutes after the posted show time due to all the ads etc."
Movies have gotten extremely expensive due to all the snacks and drinks cost. Water $5 a bottle? really?
Just like with Football, I prefer to watch from the comfort of my home!

According to a study by Web MD, a medium movie popcorn, with yellow artery-clog is equal to:   four scrambled eggs with cheese, four strips of bacon, and four sausage links.

I actually enjoy movie trailers, but being bombarded with commercials while in the seat I paid big bucks for, is as annoying as pop-up ads in an internet subscription I have paid for.

Historical note: some of us here, are no doubt old enough to remember the old Saturday double feature, that began with a newsreel and a cartoon.

About once a month, we used to go to a Sunday afternoon movie, and then hit a favorite restaurant for chickentails and dinner. Always a pleasant date.

But now we live in a little town with no theater. In fact, the nearest theater is 90 minutes away and over Fremont Pass, which can be iffy in the winter. So no more movies, which I miss.

We would never consume the theater fare. Ridiculous prices, and not good for my BP/BS.

When we travel we'll try to catch a movie. The last two were in Portland, ME and St. Louis.  And one was Downton Abbey, glad I got to see that one.

Some observations based on my experience.
1.After you've picked the perfect seat, someone taller than you will pick the seat in front of yours.
2. The seat you choose always ends up to be the one someone left some melted sticky chocolate on.
3. The person in front or beside you will be texting the whole time,casting an annoying blue glow around you.
4. Someone will always bring there 4 year old kid with them to the movie when it's 90% blood and guts violence with balls to the wall gymnastic sex on the staircase.
5. You better bring your earplugs, modern movies take their cues from that old stereo add where some dude is sitting in front of the speaker and looks like he's in a full gale force wind.
6.If the movie is one of those rare ones with meaningful dialog, some girl with a annoying voice is chatting away at a fingernails on chalkboard intensity.
The only wonder to me is how anyone gets to the end without a homicide.

I go every couple of months if there is something that catches my fancy.

I only go on Tuesdays, discount day here in Florence Ky. $6.00 I get a medium popcorn and bring my own bottled water. What they don't see won't hurt them. I find the recliners and stadium seating to be real friendly. I am far enough away from any other person that they don't annoy me. Course I'm going on a Tuesday in the AM so it is mostly geezers like me.

This theater is clean and they pop the popcorn fresh. Nothing better than theater popcorn.

I think I mostly go for the popcorn.

I usually get there 10 minuets late. No line at the concessions and minimal trailers.

I'm going to see Star Wars tomorrow, just because I watched all the others. Might as well see the last one.

They no longer salt the popcorn. They do have a shaker with salt in it but it is at the end of the concession counter. I take it with me to the theater so I can have some salty goodness. Indulging once every coupla months shouldn't hurt my health.

My wife and I go a couple times a year. It has to be something one of us really want to see and it is never during the week of the release of the film. I also like watching the previews but I don't like the commercials at all. With all the streaming services I watch most movies and TV series at home when I want to watch. Usually a couple months after the movie hits theaters there is a digital copy somewhere on line. Sometimes you get Chinese or Russian sub-titles but I've learned to ignore them.

The wife and I have been to a movie theater twice in the past five years. As others have noted, it’s just not so much of a fun experience these days. And I’m PAYING to be assaulted with COMMERCIALS? Not having to put up with commercials used to be a good reason to go to the theater.

And where are the cartoons?

Hey, remember when FLYING used to be fun? And then came bigger planes with less comfort for the passengers (ironic).

The airlines tried to make up for their bummer flying by showing free MOVIES.

Of course, they're on a screen smaller than I have at home. And there's no popcorn.

At least movie theaters are safer than flying. Unless you live in Colorado.

One of the absolute best arguments to start between my parents was how much a movie cost when they were kids My father says $0.25, and my mother says $1.00. It was the 50's and I believe my dad is correct. But all you have to do is out of nowhere say "how much did a movie cost when you were a kid" and they's start an hour long debate about it.

Have done that a bunch of times. You can also escalate it by asking how much a gallon of milk was lol.
