Just watched this movie on TCM. Pretty damn grim. Anyone else seen it?

My TV package no longer includes TCM I sometimes enjoy a grim movie, if done well. I haven't seen "Come and See"

Lots of people find watching others suffer and overcome impossible odds cathartic; I understand the psychological reasons for it, but that sort of stuff is just not entertaining or even interesting to me.
I'll give it a miss.

^^ Yeah. I watched "Sophie's Choice" when it came out and made it as far as the "choice". I've not watched anything in that genre since.
I'll watch mobsters take out each other all day long, but I'm not into watching depictions of innocent people being tortured.

I couldn’t take watching it. I would never be able to get the images out of my mind. Such evil and tragedy

I was, by no means, entertained while watching the movie. I think that it is terribly important that movies such as the one being discussed are given air time. Who knows how best to inform children of the Nazi horrors.
Got a better idea?

Many of us here would simply not exist had WWII not happened. I am grateful that I exist but wonder how things would have transpired if Hitler had been put in check before war became unavoidable. Perhaps "unavoidable" was never an option.

"Got a better idea?"
Sure--here's one example: teach young kids in schools about the holocaust, same as the history of slavery and the terrible things that precipitate wars. Teach kids how intolerance is bred by ignorance. Teach kids how important it is to communicate with others, how to think critically, analyze information and draw conclusions, and how to maintain an open mind through continuous learning. It is young people without these skills that are most easily controlled by evil people to have them do their bidding.
By the time a person is old enough to have money in their pocket to buy a movie ticket, it's too late to for them to find out there really are horrible excuses for human beings in the world.

Hi Geno "Sure--here's one example: teach young kids in schools about the holocaust, same as the history of slavery and the terrible things that precipitate wars. Perhaps changes such as those you have mentioned are now in place in North American education systems. I have been out of the loop for 49 years so I don't have a clue.
Even if such changes have been implemented, a picture is worth a thousand words, and the movie was broadcast on a Bell satellite system with no extra channels...so....no ticket necessary. Someone in Europe had the balls to make the movie, and someone in Europe had the balls to fund it. Given that such a movie has no hope of paying for itself in theaters,....what's the motive? My conclusion is that the makers feel a need still exists outside of the education system to keep the memory of the events being discussed at the forefront.
Not looking to scrap Geno, I think you are "Top Drawer"...the scenario you have suggested seems kind of Utopian to me. cheers

It's probably neither here nor there, but the movie was produced in 1985 in the Soviet Union. Those who ignore the past are more likely to repeat it.

I told my kids to make their own mistakes when raising their kids, don't make mine.
I forgot that 20 somethings know everything....

I'll give it a miss. Me too. I've seen enough of the horrors of war and dictatorian governments. At this point, I avoid the shows that just cause stress and agita. At this point I like to watch the shows that end with a witty remark and a cup of tea. I must be getting old.
