So, I've been considering a Smith & Wesson M&P 9 2.0 (or M&P 2.0 9, I dunno which way it's supposed to go, but it's this one: link) for quite a while. I've read and seen lots of very positive reviews, especially one by Colion Noir, who's opinions I've come to respect. After reading this entire thread, though, it occurs to me that I really should look at some other options. I'm intrigued by HD's new Sig and Mike's H&K. If it helps, here's what I think I'm looking for: 1. 9MM 2. 13+ round capacity 3. 4-5 inch barrel 4. striker fired (not critical) 5. polymer construction (not critical) 6. $600 or less I've owned quite a few firearms, but never an automatic handgun if that helps. So, given the vast wealth of firearms knowledge here at MT 2.0, I thought that perhaps folks might be so kind as to offer some suggestions. Thanks in advance for any recommendations you might care to offer! I had the M&P 2.0 9mm in 5” barrel and recommend the 4” model. I had accuracy issues that I do not have with 4” semi autos. I am sure some do not have issues with 5” barrels but this is my experience. I think it had much to do with my ability to hold it steady Thanks for the input, LTB. I was thinking primarily about a 4-4.25" barrel but didn't want to rule out something slightly longer just in case.

Releasing an open bolt on the AR with a new mag chambering a FMJ round makes one of the best mechanical sounds I've ever heard. CLACK! Lol. It is pretty nice. Make sure you keep it well-lubed, they like to be run wet. That is a pleasant sound to my ears as well. Of course, it leads to another typically off-beat military story ( ) When I was a security contractor in Iraq, one of the guys I worked with was a former cop. He came from a department that didn’t have M-16s and, despite a two week course we all went through, he still hadn’t grasped the way an M-16 works. He came into the operations center one morning and, instead of putting his rifle in the weapons rack we had, he leaned it against a flat wall. Predictably, it soon began a long slow slide to the side, where it made the familiar clatter when it hit the floor. No big deal… But then, the clatter turned into that sound of the bolt sliding forward and a round being chambered! Not Cool! Who carries around an M-16 with the bolt locked to the rear, and a full mag in the well? Worse, it was not on “Safe”. There were several other people in that room and we straightened that guy out quick. Even in Basic Training I never saw anyone pull that particular stunt.

There was an incident on a mission I was a part of with 1st Engineer Bn, while digging an anti-tank ditch/berm in Iraq near the Syrian border. Some bored, idiotic solider was playing with an M249 inside an MRAP, decided to imitate Tony Montana by pointing it at a fellow soldier's face with the 'Say hello to my little friend' line (too little sleep and too many Rip-Its? I don't know). All weapons were in condition 1 in this environment; Magazine/belt inserted, round chambered, safety ON- The soldier who was being flagged quickly knocked the muzzle out of his face and the idiot soldier accidently pulled the trigger, one round discharged- It barely grazed finger of the soldier who was being flagged, bounced around the MRAP a couple times, hurting nobody else. The offending soldier had his weapon taken away (while on mission, in a combat zone) and was placed in my vehicle for babysitting before being shipped back to the FOB. I don't know what happened to him after that.

I was going to email Reveredrob directly, but figured I'd post this question here:
Does anyone have any experience with a WWII era Japanese Arisaka?
I have a small collection of surplus rifles, I've got German, Russian, Chinese stuff, I'm interested in finding something Japanese to add. It won't be a regular shooter, just more of a curiosity that may see 40-50 rounds once every few years.
Any feedback would be appreciated!

My SIG P320 experiment is making me want another… but SIG has discontinued most of the manual safety variants.

'Say hello to my little friend'‘.
That guy did every possible thing wrong. It’s safe to assume that things didn’t go well for him.

Yeah, there are only five current production manual safety P320 SKUs that I can find - the basic (not even an optic cut) MA compliant compact, and FDE and black variants of the M17 and M18 military pistols. That’s it. Building on a black M18 is the most practical way, I think.

I ended up buying a black variant M18 (fairly hard to find) and put a Wilson compact grip module on it. I’m really enjoying it so far, and am now tempted to scratch another itch I’ve had for some time - a manual safety variant P365.
Do any of y’all have a P365? How do you like it? A good friend has a P365 SAS that I have shot, but being an analyst I’m always looking for more data…

I'm also really interested in a P365/manual safety for pocket carry. I haven't shot my Ruger LCP in almost 2 years because I just can't find 380 ammo.

Do any of y’all have a P365? As I recall, you were a big fan of the M&Ps for a while. What is it about the Sigs that flipped you to their side?

I was a M&P guy from around 2004 until 2014 or so when I went back to Glock. SIGs intrigue me, and when I took my NH residency I signed a paper requiring me to buy at least one a year - state law. Seriously, both the P320 and P365 series interest me enough that I want to give them a fair shake. I’m still primarily a Glock guy, though.

Larry- missed this the first go around. I love the .44 Special round and have a Taurus 431 and Ruger GP100 in it. One day would love a 624 or a 696. Also love the S&W Combat grips!

Thanks bluzcat.
It really is a nice weapon and it's unique in that it is a limited run of custom guns.

I pick up my new Sig P365 Wednesday. Out of curiosity I brought my LCP and Shield in to see what they'd offer on a trade. Nope. Maybe the wife will purse the LCP when the state goes Constitutional Carry next month.

I’m very impressed by how usable the little safety is on these things.
One thing I’d like to look at is replacing the front sight with a bright orange and tritium one. The rear is fine.
But, I’m also considering having it milled for a RMRcc red dot which would require suppressor height sights, so maybe I should save the money.

Anyone have experience/opinions on Alabama pocket holsters? I know there are opinions on pocket carry 😄, more interested in the product. At the recommendation of a departed personality here I bought a Mika pocket holster for my LCP and while it is fine, it took months to get with a lot of cricket chirping in between.

and am working on my MA nonres since I live so close to the border and cross over all of the time. I'm *very* interested in how that works out for you. Of course I know that NH is Constitutional carry -- but have you taken the time get your NH P&R permit? Last I checked, MA requires a copy of your home state carry license before it will issue a MA LTC. I just like to keep up on this stuff.
