"Zero guitar backround"
Ripsam additionally collects fretted instruments and even took a sabbatical in 2019 to work with a luthier to learn about the process of building acoustic guitars -- in the style of Martin Guitars
“I have admired Martin guitars since I was a teenager,” Ripsam said. “My first real acoustic was a Martin guitar and it has been a close companion to me since. Martin has always been an iconic fretted instrument builder and I have a deep appreciation for the company’s continued focus on quality, craftsmanship and innovation, as well as its unique culture and history.”

Sold my Martin 12 string J12-16GT a couple weeks ago, just wasn't playing it enough to justify keeping it (who knows - I'll probably break down and buy another someday...).
Current Martins:
000-18 M-36 J-28 (Custom Shop) J-18 (Custom Shop) Model America 1 (Adi/Sycamore dreadnought) DSS-15M StreetMaster

Owned an Alvarez 12 string in another life. Going on 30 years since I owned a 12.
Current Martin's are (2) OM28V's and an awesome D16 Adirondak tone monster.
The 1st OM28V sounded and felt so good I had to have another.
All 3 are mod-V necks. I gravitated that way over many decades.

I got my 000-28NB out of the shop yesterday, it's done. Had a K&K installed, the frets dressed and leveled, neck tweaked, and a set of John Pearse strings installed.
Played for a couple hours last night, she's glorious!

That "sounds" very cool, Ragtop... congrats. Those guitars are quite a find... don't even know if there are any lefties out there.
But I'm really enjoying my two J's and my M-36. If I had to pare down, these three will be the last ones out the door...for now! Just such balanced tone with plenty of volume, and no reason to wish for a "dread instead".

mikey, they only made 133 of them. Mine is #126.
If I ever spot a lefty I will let you know.

New Martin day- I traded my very sweet D-18SS for a 1964 0-16NY that is in remarkable condition. Came in a new custom case, very nice. Has a K&K installed. Very nice little guitar. I've never had a guitar this "vintage." It's had a neck reset already, so it's good there. Braz bridge, fingerboard (pretty sure), and headstock overlay. I was long in the dread department, nice to have a small-bodied guitar in the house again. cosprings.craigslist.org/msg/d/colorado-springs-martin-16ny-1964/7368259595.html

That's a very cool little guitar, Ragtop. It is nice to have some variety, although I still find myself reaching most for my larger guitars (M-36 and Jumbos)... as I get older, that may change, of course.
And I do still want to try a CEO-7 and a 00-17 1931 Authentic sometime...the 00-17 will be an expensive proposition, though, since I doubt I'll find a used lefty out there...

mikey, I had to google the 00-17, but as soon as the picture of it came up I could hear it in my head. Woody, dry, and very fundamental.
Love that all-hog tone. Hope you can find one.

Have owned many of Nazareth's finest over the last 25 years. A custom OM18 (Adi top) from a few years ago Sold it as I preferred short scale due to my advancing age. Now just one as I prepare to ride off into the sunset

I've had virtually every model over the years. Now, I live with my D-18 and a Gibson AJ. Although I just purchased a Martin Grand J-16e 12 string, because every time I play I want a 12-er on hand, then I grow tired of schlepping it to gigs, sell it, then want another...sigh
I will add that the 12 came with a Martin gig bag, which almost broke the deal for me. That really ticked me off. Now I can't find a hardshell case for the goofy thing (Grand J body with 000 depth)

My error.. I was thinking of their first "non family" executive who fit my description. His claim to fame was golf and banking finance.
Another tidbit. CFM IV is the first CF Martin head who did not build guitars.
I have owned 15 Martin guitars since 1961.
Some good, one or two excellent, 2 completely botched very expensive customs ordered in 2010 and 2011.. Both returned to Martin unplayed and destroyed by Martin (without my permission) with a response, after 11 months in their possession, ..." unable to be repaired" and an additional 11-14 months to make replacements. I declined.
I currently have 2 Martins a 1997 0000-1 , one of 370 made and a 2015 00-18V with highly flamed mahogany backs and sides.
I will only buy used Martins based on my experiences with their consumer "service" dept. Not the same company pre CFM IV.

Haven't posted here much lately - work is just time consuming (when can I retire? probably 26 months at the soonest...), so what time I spend on guitar forums is usually acoustic forums these days (my days of buying and trying lots of different electric gear are behind me). So...time to update my Martin stash - man, how quickly it can change! The current ones (all lefty): 2004 OM-21 (recently bought back!) 2011 HJ-38 Stefan Grossman Signature Model (and the reason for this post) 2018 Custom J-18 2018 Model America 1 (also bought back!) 2019 Custom J-28 2020 M-36 I received the HJ-38 yesterday; its one of 4 lefty Stefan Grossman sigs (out of 188 total), so I feel privileged to have it for "my turn". Powerful, balanced tone - has that dread whomp, but with more even tone across the strings, and the J body is easier (for *me*) to hold with its tighter waist. One of Martin's "modern" designs (actually Chris Martin IV came up with the Jumbo body), along with the other modern Martin, the 0000 or "M" body (a 000 width J body). I still can't post pics here (don't have them hosted anywhere online), but you can see some and read more about it at this link: umgf.com/stefan-grossman-hj-38-t145093-s40.html#p2672645Now - back to work!

Congrats on the HJ-38! Can't believe you found a lefty.
I have one Martin these days. It is a 2003 Custom 00-18VS UMGF. Pretty rare, lovely guitar, a keeper for sure.

Congrats on the HJ-38! Can't believe you found a lefty. I bought it from someone on the Martin forum. I saw it in a post about 6 months ago, and - half joking - I posted and told him if he ever wanted to sell it, I'd be interested. He had said in previous posts he'd never sell it, but he contacted me back channel, and said his fretting hand is giving him a lot of pain on most of his guitars' necks...and this was one of them. So we talked on the phone for a bit (I think that made him more comfortable with the sale), and he really gave me a good price (what he paid for it back in 2013!). It has a few minor blems (a couple dings, loose binding that needs to be glued), but nothing that hurts either playability or long term value. I went ahead and ordered a new set of Waverly tuners for it, and a set of Waverly Ivoroid bridge pins, since the originals are pretty chewed up. Sometime down the road I'll probably also have the first 5 frets replaced and a fret level done; there's a fair amount of wear under the high E and B strings from years of 1st position chords. Overall, it's proof that Martin has consistently made excellent guitars over the past few decades!

mikey, that will be a fine guitar once you get it sorted out. Glad it found you! Yes, the 00 is wonderful. Sitka top, quilted mahogany, 12-fretter with a slothead, 1 3/4" nut and a Mod V neck. Mine has a natural top, although they were available in amberburst as well. I think Martin has made about 120 of them; mine is #9. There is a separate chat room just for this model on the UMGF. There are photos of mine there (added link below). I posted a "WTB" ad there after learning about these little guitars, and a very nice fellow from Brooklyn offered his at a fair price, so I grabbed it. Otherwise, you never see them for sale. umgf.com/custom-pickguard-for-9-t218396.html

Another Martin made its way into my home - and my heart pretty quickly, too! It's a new (2021) lefty CEO-7, #4128 in the run (that's how many of these they've made since introducing it in 2011 or so - actually with the 2022's, it's closer to 4,500!).
This is a very balanced, loud guitar for it's size! Not boxy at all to my ears...really well designed with the hog b&s and Adirondack top, short scale and soft V neck, etc.
This makes 7 Martins in the guitar room, and that's at least one too many (LOL!); so this one will make it easy to part with my other "small" Martin, an older OM-21. This one already sounds much better (to me) than the OM-21...wow.
Retirement is coming in the next few years - and a move is probably coming next summer, so I have a bunch of guitars to get sold - a few amps, too, if I can sell them locally without shipping.
Life is good with good guitars!

Left-handed amps, I presume? Can't help you out there.... The amps are "amp"idextrous (see what I did there?). They'll play both ways.
