When we left off, I was building another "Weirdocaster" for my friend who tours in a Pearl Jam tribute band.
And for the two or three who were breathlessly awaiting an update, here goes.Build photo gallery here.

Kudos on the builds Pinetree. I especially like the gold and teal colors and the attention to neat wiring. I have yet to play a humbucker equipped strat but maybe someday I'll take the plunge.
P.S. I am a little color deficient so apologies if teal is not the actual color.

Thanks. I'm all about the wiring, it's like an art project to me. Humbucker Strats are beasts. Finished "Gold Top" Strat

Very nice, as usual.
Do you clean up that flux last?

Normally, yes. I hit it with some rubbing alcohol and a brass brush. Or sometimes I don't. Here's Weirdocaster #1 in use.

They used to harp on us, in the Air Force, about cleaning it off because it can accelerate corrosion. But I’ve seen flux in 50 y/o amps and it didn’t produce any corrosion.
Sometimes I lick it off.

I'll be replacing the volume pot before the flux ever starts thinking of corroding.

Awesome. And, for what it’s worth, he’s absolutely nailing McCready’s tone with that guitar.
My first ever paying gig was with a Pearl Jam cover band back in 1994.

Thanks. These particular guitars are purpose built for the sound of the gig, and he can play a whole show with just one.

Thanks very much. It'as win-win situation for both of us.
He gets custom guitars to play, I get to assemble guitars without spending any money, plus I get the satisfaction of seeing them in action when they play.

Yes, very nice 👍 That’s an unusual looking pickup switch, what pickup configuration does each position provide? And how did you come to that, is it a standard thing for you or did the customer spec it out? I like the ‘wired by pinetree <<- 2020’ inscription! Only really need to remove flux if it’s a specialised type, eg got some corrosive ingredient like the acid in plumbers flux, or it’s on a board that’s going to have a conformal lacquer applied (eg to accommodate very humid environments).

1. Neck
2. Neck split - front coil
3. Neck & Bridge split - inner coils
4. Bridge split -front coil
5. Bridge
My buddy came up with it, and DiMarzio sent me a schematic.

I was wondering about the reversed head stock, does it make tuning more convenient? It would seem so, your hand is in a position more similar to fretting.

(It's not my guitar.)
Personally, I prefer it, yes, it does make tuning easier, and it's got that Hendrix thing happening.

LoL Leftee, how did it taste? My early days in electronics at DFW Airport we used MEK to remove the conformal coating from circuitboards and to remove solder flux. That stuff was great but was deemed environmentally unsafe in the late 1980’s. Nothing worked like it did but I think denatured alcohol was later used.
