Finally took the plunge after all these years....I tried to A/B a bunch of them on YT...(No guitar stores around)..
ended up with a Keely Plus...at around 100 bucks....I've had it for several days and have had a good bit of time messing with it..pretty cool pedal
it's made my bare bones tele come to life!!....my tele with humbuckers not as much, but that's ok..I'll just have to fiddle around with it more..lol From what I've been able to gather, the compressor should be placed first in the chain...but I found that I like it better after the O/D and before the Reverb pedal.
I'm curious what the rest of you guys/gals use and how you have it in the effects chain

I have my Barber Tone Press before distortion.
Polytune>Tone Press>Euphoria>SL Drive>JHS Tidewater Trem>Carbon Copy>HOF mini reverb. (Somewhere in this chain I added a Joyo EQ Pedal, just can't remember where)
Compression is a weird effect. I use it all the time recording, but finding the balance on a pedalboard live is finicky.

Cool choice! I’ve been eyeing a compressor for a little while. Back in the 80s I had a Boss CS-2, then a CS-3. I think I gave the CS-2 to my bandmate at the time. Seeing Johnny Marr live made me miss having one again, though he was using a Diamond compressor on the Playland tour.
The Keeley is on the list, as is the Dynacomp (purely because Andy Summers used one in the Police days). Maybe the Diamond if I can win the lotto. The Keeley is in between as far as price. All three are very different but all have appeal.
I’d also like to try the Walrus Audio Deep Six.

as I've gotten older, I've discovered the more knobs something has, the more I want to mess with them and the less time I end up playing...
today I replaced the strings on my tele with humbuckers and it sounded much better than it did yesterday running it through the compressor

I have O/D pedals but most of the time I like to just crank the amp...and I noticed this is where the compressor really shines...especially with the bare bones tele I mentioned...dang it just kills....

I replaced my 20-YO Barber Tonepress with a Wampler Ego. It's much more versatile for the variety of styles I'm required to play. I like my compressor after all of my gain pedals and I use it mostly for clean staccato rhythm playing.

If I find a used one in decent shape at a decent price I may consider getting one.

Haha, yeah, I lean that way too - another reason the 2 knob Dynacomp has appeal. Since I bought my tele I've been looking at putting a humbucker in the neck. It's just a Squier Affinity, and the pickup swap might cost me as much as the guitar, but the Andy Summers influence is strong. That, a compressor, and an Electric Mistress should keep me occupied for a while.

One of my best guitar playing buddies has tons of gear..pedals, vintage guitars, amps, etc....his collection is probably pushing 100k.....but whenever we get together and play he constantly fiddles with the knobs on either his pedal or amps...drive me nuts...I'm like Dude!....just friggin play!

Been using an EP SL Compressors for a number of years on the gigging board. Pulled out my old Barber Tone Press a few weeks ago for the smaller at home and man I forgot what a sweet compressor it is with a nice bloom and dry/wet control. One of the reasons I got the SL, besides to smaller footprint, is the blend knob like on the Tone Press. Both are excellent. I don't use a lot of compression so don't need a lot of controls, it's an always on effect.

Tequila, too much Tequila my wife and brother think I'm a con issuer of tequila...but as far as I'm concerned it's a work in progress...maybe in another 7-10 years...lol...I would guess that I've tried maybe 50 different brands at this point....I know, pretty sad, but since I'm retired I've got all the time to work on it....

I have set up two pedal boards and each has a compressor. I use just a little bit of the effect and on each board the compressor is after the overdrive and before the delay. One of the compressors is a Maxon and the other is a Forest Green Mad Professor. I really like compression as an effect, but I do not like too much of it. A moderate blend of overdrive and compression is about where I like things set up at the beginning of my board. I leave it on all the time also.

I replaced an Indian built ED-1 Edward the Compressor with a Dynacomp because of the hype but have never been happy with it because I'm not a fan of the coloration. I missed Edward because I loved the coloration and what it did to the tone. Earlier this year I purchased a new-old stock Chinese built ED-1. I love it. I swear it is quieter than my earlier version but still sounds the same.
I also have a VFE White Horse. I could never get on with it until I realized I could adjust the pre-gain, only last week after having it for five or so years, and what a world of difference it makes, great pedal now. My only gripe is the amount of noise produced when the compress clamp is released.
I also have a Keeley Compressor Pro. Awesome compressor but I use it more as a utility rather than a tone changer/enhancer like I do with he ED-1 and White Horse (and the Dynacomp as a dehancer! if needed).
