Never had a problem with either Tele or Strat. Was lucky enough to start playing both in my early years as I bought my first Strat in 1973 when I was 19 and then a Tele in '76. Made it easy to navigate around either as I didn't have time to get use to just one. Used Strats and Teles back then were around $100 a pop, with case. In the first band I ever played in back in 1970 I played a borrowed 60's something Tele that have been painted psychedelic through a Standell amp with one of those to die for these days big grey Tone benders. It's been Tele the go to ever since. Can't image what that rig would go for today!!

Like the looks of a Custom Roll impleted amp but standell was a better amp`

There was mention early on in this thread about The Band. Robertson played a Tele for years. If he was on the Last Waltz sporting a Strat, that was probably a fairly new rig for him.
I’m really a country guitar fan and always have been, but The Band is my favorite rock band or rock style band. For every great Strat player, there is a great Tele player and vice versa, IMHO.

I'd like to see this as a poll, with the only choices to pick one or the other. If "both" was an option, that would probably win. Force people to choose, make them decide! The result would be interesting. I think Tele's seem to be more "in" these days....but not for me.

He started on the Strat back when backing Dylan. "Let’s start with the bronze Strat - where did you first come by it? “I got the guitar from Norm’s Rare Guitars in Los Angeles. Norman Harris always had spectacular guitars. This was one that he brought me. It was originally red, which was kind of unusual, because the guitar is from 1954. The serial number is 0234. When he gave me this guitar to try, it felt amazing. There was something about the neck on it “Anyway, he brought me a bunch of guitars to try out. In that batch, there was a Telecaster with a V neck. It was beautiful. I had played Telecaster for years, starting back with Ronnie Hawkins, because we had to play long hours and it was one of the lighter guitars. It didn’t hurt your shoulder at the end of the night. Anyway, I was drawn to this Telecaster, and I played it and it felt really good. This V neck was great on it. “Then he brought out this Stratocaster. I had played a Stratocaster years earlier, but because of the tremolo bar on it, and the way that whole thing works, if you break a string it goes wildly out of tune. The tremolo bar also makes it hard to keep in tune as well. I just didn’t want to be bothered with that. “So I veered away from Stratocasters and went in the direction of the Teles. But when he gave me this guitar to try, it felt amazing. There was something about the neck on it, the balance. And when I plugged it in, the sound. It just completely swayed me in that direction. I said, ‘I am going to take this Stratocaster, and I want to show this Telecaster to Bob Dylan, because I think this would be great for him.’ “We were planning on doing this tour in the beginning of 1974 with Bob Dylan and The Band. I just said, ‘I loved this Telecaster.’ Anyway, Bob ended up getting that guitar and used it for that whole tour. I used the Stratocaster for that tour. I used the Strat almost exclusively after that. It had such a great feel to it.” www.musicradar.com/news/robbie-robertson-on-the-last-waltz-gear-secrets-and-that-bronze-fender-strat

You can see Robbie here playing a modern era Strat where he has also moved the middle pickup to be right up against the bridge pickup; much like he had for the Last Waltz Strat he was using at that concert:

I have often thought about what a Stratocaster could sound like with the middle pickup up against the bridge pickup, but I had never heard of anyone actually doing it. It's essentially an HS Stratocaster. Toggle switch position 2 is the humbucker bridge pickup, and position 4 is bridge and neck pickups together.

I don't think I can do that without starting a new thread. Not sure if it's worth it. I cannot see how I could either If you click "Edit" on the first post of your thread, there should be an "Add Poll" option. I think... But this is entirely up to you! I've never seen anyone add a poll to a thread with this many posts already.

There should be a discussion of the questions.
As stated above, if it was Tele, Strat or both, it’s very likely that both would win.
I’m a Tele guy normally. I love my Strat, it feels slightly more sophisticated, and sometimes that’s what’s required. I find it very difficult to explain the differences.

I've got several strat's and only one Tele....infer what you can from that data.

One Tele covers more ground than a bunch of strats? 😊

I watched a video yesterday on making presets with a Helix, and the guy was using a Tele.
I wonder if that guy would sell mine back to me?

I identified as a Strat guy in the '70's, although I sold my electric gear to buy my kids diapers.
After I sold it I always determined that I'd get another but when I did return to electric I got a Tele, which I've owned now for 30 years.
But I'm still a Strat guy.

I've got two strats, one Les Paul, and zero teles.
The three saddle bridges always scared me off. Being a not-so-good player, the last thing I need is intonation troubles.

I find the necks on a Telecaster very sensuous.
Testing...testing...🤣
