Not for me, too much wood.

I’ve got a Dean Schenker V. Love it!
No Gibson... yet.

Yep. Love 'em. As 'large' as they appear, there's also a lot of air in between the wooden pointy parts and that makes them surprisingly light in weight: I also have Reverend's version, called the Volcano. The only drawback is playing these when seated, because they don't sit nicely on the leg. But why would you play one while sitting?

That is a cool guitar. I may have to acquire one. I always liked the look.

I've had my Flying Vee since 1979. For quite a few years it was my only guitar. As Mr Goo says, they are surprisingly light. I used to play mine sitting down all the time; you just put the V part between your legs ;-)

You mean like this? Yep, but whilst sitting down. Michael Schenker was one of my first heroes, and was the reason I bought a vee in the first place.

I saw a truck stop once called the Flying V. I went in but alas they were no Flying V's. I think I am going to see if I can find a good used one.

If you can deal with the not-mirror-polished look of the Faded V series, they are a steal on the used market. Mine was a faded cherry over mahogany, and I shot it with Fender fiesta red nitro. Yeah, it's not a traditional color for a Gibson V, but I don't care. I like the color. The guys that reached down and pulled me aboard the Flying V train were Lonnie Mack and Albert King:

Thanks for the tip Peegoo. Seeing Albert King play one really did it for me.

Cheers. This is the Volcano H90, a 2008 model. Unlike the Gibson, it's asymmetrical in shape and it has a raised center section like the original Gibson Firebirds do. The body and neck are korina; this guitar just...sings. It's called the H90 because it has a humbucker in the bridge position and a GFS Mean 90 (P90 in humbucker clothing) in the neck position. The GFS pickup is stock equipment on this model. These kinds of "P90s" (Mean 90, Duncan Phat Cat, etc.) don't sound like a real P90. Rather, they're somewhere between a P90 and a humbucker.

I have a Dean USA V in trans black flame that has a single active EMG pickup. As mentioned, it’s surprising how light weight Vs are compared to LPs. It is my most aggressive sounding guitar and very comfortable to play. My Gibby Explorer is second on the aggressive tone scale and another light weight guitar but it won’t “stand” by itself like a V

Mostly play Fender guitars and amps. I'm 71 and have had a guitar since 1964. Got serious in 1975.

I owned a Flying V back in the 70's but didn't keep it very long. I traded it for a nice Les Paul. I was fortunate enough to find an original 1958 Flying V sometime in the mid 90's. The guy wouldn't sell. I offered him $25,000 but he turned it down.

I wonder where that guitar is now. Aaaand this seemed appropriate: Stevie was a huge Lonnie Mack fan. First record he ever bought was Mack's tune Wham on 45. This: Lonnie was a known quantity in the business. He played bass on the studio recording of The Doors' tune Roadhouse Blues.

I heard his brother had many of SRV's instruments but also heard someone broke into the storage place in Austin Tx and stole some things. Don't know if they ever retrieved anything but hope so.

One old rocker dude loves them. He has about 6. They are light as a feather and play like a dream but the shape just isn't comfortable for me. I'm so used to more real estate on a guitar that I can't get used to them. It ticks all the regular boxes as to what sounds and plays well.

I once bought an Epi Korina Flying V, just for the novelty of it, and to hang it on the wall of my music room. It played well enough that I put it into occasional rotation with my "gigging" guitars. I regrettably sold it off when I was financing my escape from hell several years ago. I'm still looking for a replacement.

The Epis are great Vs. I like the ones with the hockey-stick headstock...not too common:
