A shameless plug for an old friend and bandmate's quirky solo album. The guy's incredibly imaginitve and well, hey, any song that ends in a Brian Wilsonish a capella singing "If Jesus really loves me there's a Molson hiding in this fridge" is alright with me.

Wynton Marsalis gets dinged a lot for not being more "pure" when he does jazz. I disagree -- I bought this record when it came out in the 80s. I love it.

Wore this whole album out when it came out in 1973, saw em do it live back then, killer.

It's the end of summer. This record always captures the mood. I've had this on cassette for years and finally got a reissue on vinyl.

More Jazz organ (playing with one of the finest "unknown" [tongue planted firmly in cheek] guitar players ever):
Rhythm section ain't too shabby neither...
Joey ain't no slouch either! But I know you know this.

Nothing spinning for my music, but today I listened to the Doors' "Morrison Hotel" album while driving to/from the bank and waiting at the drive through. One of my favorites.

saw em do this live when it came out, great concert. There was so much smoke you couldn't hardly see them on the stage.

If you'd played this one without first identifying it, I would never have guessed "Velvet Underground". Sounds almost more like a Who/Stones mashup with Jerry Garcia doing vocal duty:

Sounds almost more like a Who/Stones mashup with Jerry Garcia doing vocal duty: 'Squeeze' is basically a Doug Yule solo album. There's no Lou Reed, or Sterling Morrison, or Mo Tucker, or John Cale, or anybody from the original lineup. It's a VU album in name only

This thread slipped off the first page so here's a bump. Listening to Sonny Rollins "Saxophone Colossus" on a reissue LP -- I don't have an early pressing. Everyone loves "Kind of Blue" (me included) but this is probably my favorite jazz record.

Cheep Thrills....Big Brother and The Holding Company.
According to the cover, Live Material Recorded At Bill Graham's Fillmore Auditorium. Approved by Hell's Angels Frisco. Columbia stereo records can be played on today's mono record players with excellent results. They will last as long as mono records played on the same equipment, yet will reveal full stereo sound when played on stereo record players.

Even if they're badly warped and I weight down the tone arm of my stereo with a couple of Pink Pearl erasers so it won't "skip"?

I've got a copy of "Cheap Thrills" that came from my wife's collection. It looks like someone ate a steak dinner on it. I don't even want to know what was going on in her life at the time that would account for a record suffering that kind of damage -- but I keep it for sentimental reasons. I've looked over the years but have never found a used copy that was in much better shape.
I've got a CD copy -- I'm OK with that.

My copy of Cheep Thrills is in "decent" condition considering its age. You can tell it has "been around" a bit. I doubt I'll play it much as it might do damage to the stylus. Still has some wow factor for a live recording.

Spinning some Max Roach and Clifford Brown this afternoon on vinyl. My copy is the 1972 repress but still in mono -- still sounds great.

Spinning again on CD (I still don't have a decent vinyl copy) -- Trane and Johnny Hartman. Just a word of caution to you guys who wear panties (NTTAWWT), Johnny Hartman's voice has been known to make them fall off.
