And I'll just leave this little gem right here fer ya all: Gary Moore was one of my favorite white blues players. Gone too soon.
Along that theme, I'm spinning my vinyl copy of Tommy Bolin's "Teaser" that I bought in 1976 about a month before he died. He was an amazing player and composer.

Another death. Tony Allen, the drummer who is credited with creating Afrobeat along with Fela Kuti, died yesterday at the age of 79. I don’t have much of his work but tonight I’ve been listening to album The Good, The Bad and The Queen. He plays alongside Damon Albarn,Paul Simonon and Simon Tong. RIP Mr Allen

On the turntable today is Sonny Stitt "Genesis" which is a compilation of remastered tunes on Prestige of some of his best work from the late 40s and into the 50s. One of the greats.

Man -- there's a lot going on in that track. Big John was a killer on the B3.

Now spinning on a late night Telarc Jazz CD:
Whenever I go to a thrift store to look through the used CDs, I always skim the rack looking for the yellow Telarc label first -- and buy them regardless of the content.
Never been disappointed.

Just be aware that he shills for a charity after the song ends. I'm not giving the charity in question either a thumbs up or a thumbs down: just giving you advance warning that the pitch is there:

Playing "Duets" by bassist Rob Wasserman and a select group of collaborators including Aaron Neville, Lou Reed, and Rickie Lee Jones. I have my original LP that I bought when it was new and another that I bought as a backup. This afternoon I'm listening to my copy on cassette -- it sounds nearly as good as the LPs. This is one of the best sounding recordings I have in my collection -- it's worth grabbing if you happen to see it.

Alto sax plyr Richie Cole passed a couple days ago @ 72. Phenomenal player taken too soon (not covid related) Here's an incredible set from the Village Vanguard in early 80s. Hold on to your socks, this is unbelievable!

Oh man, I'm sorry to hear about Richie Cole. I saw him with Eddie Jefferson in the late '70s at a long-gone club in Detroit, then ran into him at a (late night) restaurant after the show.
Alto madness for real.
