I've tried 'em all over the years (Peterson PT10, Snark, Planet Waves, Korg, etc.), and the one I like best is the Peterson Intellitouch PT40C. It's well made, it tracks extremely well no matter where it's placed on an instrument, and it's rechargeable via the included mini USB cable. The battery stays charged a long time too. Yeah, it costs a bit more, but you don't have to replace batteries.

When I was looking for a clip on tuner I wish I have known about the Intellitouch PT40C. It looks heavy duty and I do know Peterson's reputation for good, accurate and stable tuners. The price is much better than I thought it would be for a Peterson product.

On two of my guitars (a homebrew Esquire and homebrew Telecaster) I permanently installed a little Daddario tuner on the back of the headstocks. I cut the leg off the little backing plate, drilled and countersunk two holes, and screwed the plate down. The tuner snaps into the plate and rotates (it has a dovetailed disk that fits the plate), and it's easy to remove to replace the battery. It's also easy to see, and it's invisible from the front. Some people freak out about this kind of stuff. It's like you slapped their momma or something: "What? You DRILLED HOLES in your guitar? I would never do that!" Um...yeah. If you look closely right here, I also drilled four holes and installed the bridge. And here, I drilled five holes and installed the pickguard. And here on the back I drilled four more holes and attached the neck. Oh, and back here on the headstock I drilled seven holes for the tuner screws, and one on the front for the string tree. And that's not counting the two holes for strap buttons and two holes to mount the control plate. Go pound sand. It's my guitar, not yours.
