It’s been suggested that we need to focus some energy on bringing in new members. To the extent that’s true, I would love to hear ideas on how to do that. All I can think of is:
Talk about Moe’s with anyone to think might be interested; Facebook groups, other boards, musician friends, whomever.
I can say, though, even in the brief moments I have had the site live for testing purposes, we had a couple guests about the room. Not sure how they found us.
If you’ve got ideas on how we can promote new membership, or whether we should or should not bother, let’s discuss.

Sure, a healthy community takes all kinds. As an aging demographic it would be wise to encourage newer younger thinking, and interests, fresh bloods have a much different leaning atmosphere than what most of us older FDPers grew up with. I think instead of criticizing younger demographics, I just start using the southern Passive-aggressive “ Well Bless Your Heart” “o)

I think the question is, how do we keep them? At the FDP when younger members showed up, they never stuck around. At least the vast majority. I do not remember anyone making them feel unwelcome. So, thoughts?
Also, we are mostly a bunch of musicians. I can't think of any search term that would send younger musicians or Fender aficionados here. How can we fix that?

Having said that, I would like to see this forum grow diversely. All age groups.

There may be additional "geezers" like myself that will now post. Former Long Time Lurkers.

Hi Y'all . . . I've been lurking on the FDP for about 2 years or so. I'm not young I'm 63. How do you feel about sexual orientation? I'm a crossdresser but don't make a huge deal of that online. However it is how I post everywhere online. The younger crowd doesn't think twice about these things. I don't want to make waves here but am most comfortable this way.
From what I've seen on other forums younger players do love their gear. I'm not a working musician but have been playing off and on for about 50 years. Almost exclusively for myself at home. I'm mostly interested in hardware and setups and learning to get the 13 guitars I own to feel right for me. I've found the FDP a very nice place to browse the post, much more so than other forums in general but my age might have something to do with that.
I turned my first truss rod about 6 months ago. Lol! If you didn't notice . . . I can also be a bit wordy. Do you think I'd fit in here?

^^ I like sexual orientation. As far as crossdressing, Chris is our resident fashionista -- he might be persuaded to give you some tips. Just play by the house rules and you'll fit in fine.

With that, though, I would encourage you to register with the site. I thought I had the site set to not permit guests to post, and i will be changing that.

As an oldie, I would agree...diversity would be great. Who cares who or what people are. As long as they are civil and can contribute and share, cool! How 'bout more women? So much of this stuff is just a bunch of guys all the time. That might be even harder than bringing in the young folks. But it would be good...

Not sure how anybody would find this place.... I guess if you were looking for a Simpsons discussion board you might stumble onto it ;-). Most of us wound up on the FDP at some point because we were looking for wisdom on guitars or Fender products, then stayed for the cheesecokes. Perhaps if there was some searchable text on the landing page stating what this place is may eventually help land some new members... something like "a community of musicians who enjoy discussing guitars, gear, gas prices, etc" lol. Some words to summarize the history of the FDP and it's role in the creation of this board may also help bring some context and perhaps some folks looking for knowledge on Fender products...

Right now my focus is getting the site running smoothly for us. After all that’s done, I’ll worry about finding a way to promote us. The more the merrier as far as I’m concerned.

Everyone counts.
If the ship starts to take on water, I'm a big guy; I will grab as many of you as I can...because I can't swim.
I keed, I keed!
It's very cool to get lurkers out of the shadows and bring new people aboard. The day I stop learning new things from other people--young and old--is the day I really start to die.
