Sort of like this but with a set screw..I'd love to get some vintage cupcake knobs but the only ones I can find are press on....I doubt that would work..
any ideas?

Rob, if the shafts on your Tele are the plain/smooth type, get the press-on knobs you like and drill out the centers to the same size as the shafts. Scuff the shafts lightly with 100-grit sandpaper just a little bit. Place a drop of Elmer's on a Qtip and run it around inside the knob, and press it onto the shaft. Let it set up overnight and the knob will stay on until you need to remove it (it's not permanent). There are a few companies that sell repro cupcakes, but shop carefully because there are some out on the market that are too yellow. Another option is cream knobs of the type used on Fender 'brownface' amps of the 1960s. Lots of repros available. if you don't like the black line on top you can sand the tops of the knobs and polish them right up. They resemble cupcakes from three feet away, and they have set screws.

thanks for the info...I'm with ya...I thought if push came to shove, I could get the cupcakes, drill them out a little bit, sand and glue...the glue part is something I didn't think of....I'd considered the vintage blond knobs,..the color is perfect, as a last resort...though I wish they were a tad taller, more like tele dome knobs...the pic I included is not mine, but I suspect they are split shaft pots...
I'm going to try the cupcakes first... the damn things are gorgous!... I have a set but their maroon... there are repo's out there for pretty cheap..
and besides, it will give me something to do in my retired life..
keep on smiling!
P.S...How did you get 3 stars so soon?.......yer not sucking up already are you?...;-0

Thank you, O Florida Brother! Ok, so rolling around in my parts bin, (among 1000 other things) I found some old brown cupcake knobs so I thought I give them a try....not sure if I like the color on them but I do like the way they feel and adjusting vol/tone on the fly is easier Attachments:

Muddy Waters used amp knobs too. I find them easier to adjust with the numbers.

I've got some blackface knobs like Muddy used, but didn't like they way they looked on this particular ax...I put some on a black tele with a black pickguard and it looked awesome!...if I can find pic of it I'll post....

I sold the guitar because my love affair with Lace Sensors had run its course....

Thanks for sharing. The knobs look nice with the body. Never played a lace sensor.

this were quite rare...they are both Blue/Gold dually's...the blue coil is a fat humbucker while the gold is a vintage strat...this particular guitar was set up with a 5 way switch and a 3 position mini switch so there was a total of 9 tone combinations.......in a nutshell the Lace sensors are a bit sterile sounding especially when played cleaned, but they really come to life when you put an OD pedal in front of them...

In the 80s I was recording quite a bit and my 1966 Fender Mustang was just too noisy, so I stuck in a pair of silver Lace Sensors (they were The Hot Thing as they had just come out), and they were great! Loved 'em!
Fast forward 15 years...and I stuck the original pickups back in, and holy cats what the hell was I thinking? Sometimes noisy pickups are just something you deal with in order to get killer tone.
Sort of like the two happiest days in a man's life: the day he buys a boat--and the day he sells it.
