What I don't understand is why we don't use the test South Korea is using. Drive up, get swabbed, 6 hours later a result. My info is that we’re 1-2 weeks away from having that test here. Why it’s taking so long, who knows, other than that South Korea was easily able to start making them in country and I don’t think we were. We’re now almost a full week without getting a call with the results. At this point I’m not even expecting a call. For today’s update, all seems the same. My daughter’s congestion seems to be coming and going, giving credence to my seasonal allergy theory. I feel fine and got a little more sleep last night than I have been getting. My wife is currently giving a live math lesson to her students, an hour long, no apparent distress (well, not illness related, a bunch of 6 year old related, maybe). Maintaining the status quo which is good as far as I am concerned.

That is a bright spot of good news in this doom'n'gloom media circus. Thanks for the update!
This kind of information gives hope to many, many people.

Abbott Labs has introduced a test system that gives results in 5-15 minutes. Of course, like anything else, it takes time to deploy. It will no doubt go to NYC and other very large metro areas first.

Throwing out the reminder that this thread is for personal or family experiences only. I specifically said no discussion of statistics or anything else regarding the disease. Those are against pro boards policy, and I have asked everybody to refrain from doing so.

"Neighbor is now in induced coma and on a ventilator." Boy, that's grim.

Update on my neighbor. They took him off the vent this morning. They have him on some sort of nasal breathing assist, but he's awake and aware. I hope he's past the worst of it.

Is this your immediate next door neighbor? Are you close?

It’s always a good sign when they Start breathing on their own. They’re probably giving him a bit of oxygen to tweak his FIO2.

Good luck, Mfitz. You got this. Thanks man, it really appears that we do. Basically we are symptom free now. My wife and I are both feeling kind of tired, but I think that might be a function of too much time sitting around. She’s been exercising, I’ve been trying to get out walking every day, but still. I’m going to try to up my activity level and see how that goes. Tomorrow I have to run to the office (payday) and do some errands, so I’ll be out walking around in mask and gloves.

Glad all is well in Fitzville.

That’s good news, I hope you’re right. Is this your immediate next door neighbor? Are you close? He's two doors down. We hang out a bit because we both homebrew, like craft beer and good bourbon. We were just sampling bourbon about 4 weeks ago.

Our office houses a title company so technically we’re allowed to be open (collection of taxes for the State is still an essential service, go figure). But, we’re not working there, only running in and out to grab work, and of course, our paychecks on Thursdays.

Mike, I haven’t been online much in the last week or so...of my own doing. Hard to believe but I have much painting (art) to do. And once I get started I keep going so the paint won’t get wasted by me letting it dry out. For awhile, tubes of paint were running as high as $117.00 for a two ounce tube. I certainly let him know how disgusting and shameful he was being. The next week they were down to a limit over normal. That was eBay’s doing though. I still don’t buy paint from him. I only buy good quality paint and so far, Amazon has the best prices.
Anyway, I was sorry to hear of your plight with this crazy stuff. You and yours are in my prayers everyday.
As as I tell my daughter who is in Ft. Collins, CO, and I am in St. Joseph, MO... She is at home with two teenage boys and her newest set, a boy 5, and a girl 3. “You are all safe and well. Every night when I go to bed I say to myself and my wife, one day down. Every Sunday night I say, one week down.”
You Mr. Giraffe wrangler, head one at that, are a good tough customer. I imagine your whole family is made of tough customers. You do what you need to do and you WILL get through this, as they will.
Not trying to be dramatic, font mistake this message for that. These are dramatic times at their worst. I believe and mean every word I say!
Unless of course, we are joking are around...which we are not right now. Steve

Just got one moments ago. He's a little better yet. Still on O2, too weak/sick to talk much, they did have him sit up for a minute or two to see if they could get some liquids into him (other than via IV). He's improving oh so slowly and not out of the woods fully yet, but the signs are good. I live at the end of a cul de sac and I noticed a fancy bus going through the turnaround. Well, that was just the start of about 60 cars, buses, trucks with friends of his in a parade through the neighborhood in a show of support. It was initiated by the shriners and was very touching. In fact it made my allergies kick in something fierce.

It's encouraging and at the same time sobering to read through this thread. I'm at the "epicenter" in New York City. I'm holed up in my apartment and have not been out except for a quick grocery run about a week ago. So far so good, feeling fine, no sign of any problem. One observation. Single use disposable plastic grocery bags were just banned here as of March. I agree they are bad for the environment but they are much safer to use in the current situation. Anyway, I'm hoping that all who have been mentioned here will continue to safely recover.

Not sure about in Manhattan, but here in the forgotten borough, nobody is enforcing the bag ban and nobody is charging for paper bags in those places that got rid of the plastic.

San Francisco just banned those cloth totes that they made everyone buy a couple of months ago, and are back to using plastic. Seems that it is more sanitary somehow.

Glad to hear the positive news Mike. Best wishes on continued improvement. I just returned home from my first day of work in six days. It seems our assistant shift manager's wife returned from Germany and has tested positive. He himself is sick, but does not have test results back yet. Our shift Manager (who obviously spends a quite a bit of time with her assistant) has not been at work for a day or so. Seems we might have some of this running through our group. Has me feeling glad I have been out of that loop for nearly a week. On a positive note: Our company has announced they will be paying all employees through May 15 … working or not. Hopefully we will be seeing a light at the end of the tunnel on this mess by then.
