The documentary "Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened" is a 2019 American documentary film about Billy McFarland and the failed Fyre Festival of 2017. It's almost as unbelievable as Tiger King! It's crazy from the first minute! Just watched this on your recommendation. Wow. You weren't kidding. Thanks for the recommendation!

If you don't mind reading subtitles, Fauda is amazingly good. It is about a small counter terrorism team that works primarily in the West Bank. It shows what both side of the story what they have to deal with living in the Middle East. It's a Netflix show.

Good call on Molly's Game. Great movie.
We're hooked on Ozark right now. We're about 10 episodes in and pretty much every one has some sort of twist or radical change. It is a bit dark though.

I like the dark stuff, I dunno why. I'm a completely non-violent peacenik in real life. Maybe 'tis a vicarious thrill thing.
I binged through the 6 part Waco. It's not like anyone is going to spoil the ending. It was OK. Too shallow and obvious, with typical characters. Shea Whigham as the hawkish shoot-first guy you love to hate. Michael Shannon, who can't deliver a bad performance, pretty much saves the min-series.
The Plagues of Breslau is a mystery thriller that has nothing to do with diseases or viruses. It's about a serial killer and it's pretty gory, even gross in places. Think Se7en, Silence of the Lambs, etc. You'll get ahead of it which I think is intentional, because then it takes an unusual turn. If you are OK with the genre and with reading subtitles, it's pretty good.

I think we've gone through just about every detective /dark noir series out there, many already listed. As an antidote to all that heaviness and murder and mayhem I'd recommend "Tokyo Stories- Midnight Diner" on Netflix. Two season of simple stories connected to the patrons of a small diner in Tokyo. Very Japanese in the combination of elements - drama, comedy, almost slapstick goofiness, drama, and almost naive sentimentality. Short episodes with the different dishes being served acting as catalysts for the tales.
And if you want to replicate any of the dishes, the recipes are here-

Extraction, new on Netflix. It's gritty, violent and the fast pace is relentless. The plot is simple enough but it is a well done top level production. Fun flick if you are up for it. Crank the audio!

We watched a few of those. Found some of it entertaining, but thought some humorous parts didn't translate as well others. Japan has definitely become "westernized" in some ways since WWII, but there are still many aspects of the culture that remain difficult for outsiders to grasp (which probably holds true in reverse, as well).
Have you looked at "James May: Our Man in Japan" on Amazon?
I thought that a few parts of it were a bit judgemental/unnecessarily disrespectful, but it does offer an interesting window on some of the more striking cultural differences.

I've enjoyed the Kominsky Method with Alan Arkin and Michael Douglas. Funny stuff, great chemistry between the two.

Here are couple of movies on Amazon Prime with which I would advise not to bother:
•"The Loop": tedious stuff in which time displacement is the centerpiece. Exactly why this occurs is vaguely attributed to a mysterious, shiny orb located in an underground, "scientific" complex, but the origins of the orb or exactly what it is/does or where it came from are never explained.
•"Code 8": "super powers" type action. A few interesting visuals. In an annoying piece of bad casting, main character is noticeably too close in age to the actress who plays his mother. While I've seen worse character development, it was pretty thin in this, as was the story line. _________________
And here is another (Amazon series) that we thought was better and watched through:
•"Carnival Row": Dark, "steam-punk" crime fantasy. Graphic violence, sexuality and general creepiness render it totally inappropriate for young eyes. Be warned that there is a none-to-subtle "message" about immigration and intolerance that crops up from time to time throughout. If you can ignore that, the visuals are a pretty trippy compensation prize. I'm guessing "Lord of the Rings" fans might find this one entertaining, albeit "grittier".

I’m watching The Apollo Chronicles on Prime. It’s pretty good insight into our space program through the Apollo missions.

Watch: On Prime for free
If you watch this, you're going to meet the original logging crew, and Travis Walton. Try to detect the slightest indication insincerity from any of the crew including Travis Walton.
I think I've read, and heard about all the accounts against their story, and they've all been proven untrue.
This is the only story of it's kind that I find very hard to dismiss.
If you have your mind already made up about the T.W. abduction, you should especially watch this documentary.

Shameless. Not new but an excellent depiction of various types of human dysfunction. William H Macy is a far better actor than I could have ever imagined.

You bet, man! You might want to follow it up with Fire In The Sky, although, Travis Walton himself said, the movie is close, but not a perfect depiction of his experience. I like the movie.

Crank the audio! Watched this one last night and pretty much concur with digiboy's assessment. I would just add that there is a little bit more character development than is usually present in this sort of movie, which was good. But yeah: "fast pace is relentless" about covers it.
We must have been putting out some adrenaline or something while we were watching it, because our dogs, who had been sleeping on the sofa next to us got pretty nervous and needed their bedtime bathroom break earlier than usual. Funny how they pick up on stuff like that.

The Worricker Trilogy" (2011) Free on Amazon Prime. If the Daniel Craig "Bond" movies are the "cage fighting" of spy/intelligence films, this series might be thought of as the "chess" or "go" of the genre by contrast. More subtle intrigue and maneuvering than "shoot 'em up", it's laden with wry humor and dense, nuanced dialog. We're only one episode in, having started watching it last night. So far, we really like it. Certainly seems closer to what I would imagine the real-life "cloak-and-dagger" world to be than a lot of the outlandish, non-stop gunfire and mixed martial arts of action movies. Actually kind of refreshing in that regard, though some may dismiss it as "boring". Judge for yourself: www.imdb.com/title/tt1797469/

I recently watched "The Method", a Russian detective series with subtitles. It was a little slow by American standards, but not bad.
Just started the "Vinyl" series -- it's kind of a "Mad Men" but about the music business in the 70s. Also not bad.

Just when you think there can't be another wrinkle on the zombie face. I kept thinking that one of the actors looked a lot like Glenn Close. Because she was.

I thoroughly enjoyed both the Narcos series on Netflix. I'm not particularly into the violence, but it's an entertaining and somewhat educational look into that crazy world.
