I've gained 5 lbs since retiring June 1 of this year. When working I always packed a healthy lunch and dinner and stayed away from sweets, which I tend to like. Now I'm home around that crap all the time. Plus, I pretty much just collapsed and did nothing my first month off. 40 years of doing the same job will do that to you.
Lately I feel myself recharging and tackling projects I've put off for retirement. Also getting myself psyched to restart my workout regimen again. When I lose 10 lbs I'll feel pretty good about myself. 20 and I'll be lean and mean.

I'm not overweight, but I certainly can get there in a few short weeks if I let the simian portion of my brain control my actions. I love to eat, and I love to eat a lot. I consider very few things as non-food items; okra and boiled Brussels sprouts are at the top of the H8 list.
Snacking is what puts pounds on me; it has in the past, so I do a few things that help prevent undue increase of my own positive buoyancy in the water.
1. I do not buy chips/pretzels/cookies/etc. None in the house. Most prepared "foods" that are easy to eat (no prep time necessary; open the container, open the mouth, transfer the cargo) are the fast track to weight gain.
2. I keep "healthy" snacks like baby carrots, fresh fruit, etc., to munch on between meals. This can be a trap too, however. Years ago I read a book by a dietician that presented many examples of patient case studies. One of her patients weighed in excess of 400 lbs, and was puzzled because the person was addicted to oranges: that's most of what they ate. They're GOOD for you, right? When the doc asked how many oranges per day they ate, the patient replied, "sometimes more than a hundred." Dang...there's yer sign. "My boy LUKE can eat FIFTY AIGS!
3. I easily get bored, and when that happens, the monkey part of my brain gets confused and interprets that as hunger. So I taped a large note to my fridge: "You're not hungry. You're bored. Go make something non-edible, you goober!" It has stopped me more than a few times.
Maybe some of this can help you if you're struggling with weight gain. Cheers to all and be well!

Go make something non-edible, you goober!" It has stopped me more than a few times. As long as it doesn't also make you throw your poop, its all good. The real key, for me anyway, has been not having crap in the house. If you don't have it, you'll eat it less often. If I had cookies and carrots, I would definitely choose the cookies. If there's just carrots, I will eat the carrots. Not that I wasn't already aware of this, of course, but being in quarantine and losing weight doing nothing but watching how I ate kind of brought home that message. I do not eat 100 oranges a day, and I am not even sure how that's possible. It's akin to that maniac that eats all the hot dogs on July 4. And I don't want to know what effect all of that acid has on your digestive system.

I'm up 20. I hate you guys. I'm with you. They don't call it the "COVID 19" for nothin'... I've gained at least 10 from the quarantine time...maybe even more than that. I've taken off around 6 lbs. so far in the past week as my wife and I have gotten serious about getting rid of this Covid baggage. Cutting back on snacks and bread - not all out KETO, but in that direction somewhat. We did KETO last year, and it was great - until we stopped, then it was bad. So I'd rather make it about portion/sweets control and eat "normally". Want to lose another 20 at least; 25 would be ideal. My lifestyle is too sedentary, which is part of the problem.

I’m up 20 since I started working from home mid March. Drinking more alcohol eating more and less exercise will do it every time.

I gained a few, lost a few. But overall, still over from back in March.

I don't know if my "case study" is valid at all...considering the lack of a weight challenge I've ever faced. But frankly, none of the sweets, snacky, processed quickie hits are tasty for me. I just don't like them. I get my jollies via dried fruits and nuts. I certainly eat a fair amount of fresh fruit every day as well. I like raisins, apricots, figs, prunes, pistachios, etc.; no problem snacking on this stuff (for me, at least). For peanut butter I never eat store bought versions; look at the label...it's got nothing to do with peanuts. It's basically sugar, salt and fat. I grind it fresh--tastes kinda like peanuts. Imagine that? No ice cream (I just don't have the interest or taste for it), no drinking, no soda. While it might sound like it's a regimen, that's not at all what it is. I am in fact eating what I most like to eat. And it helps me stay fit and healthy. No processed foods--that stuff is basically like the peanut butter.
I kind of get a laugh at this new stuff--"Beyond Meat." Why would you eat that? Unless, perhaps, you'd like to wean yourself from traditional meats--I can understand that. But from what I read on the label of that stuff, is it'll probably kill you faster than meat. It's all processed stuff--lab food. You're better off eating a burger of grass-fed beef in my book. Lower carbon footprint, and it's actually food.
Just my 2 cents...

^ I have to agree, I have no need for meatless meat. There’s plenty of stuff like vegetables, pasta, etc that don’t contain meat. I don’t need my meat to not contain meat.
Of course, it’s trendy to be a vegan so companies are going to exploit that.

it’s trendy to be a vegan so companies are going to exploit that. True enough. But it is not all that likely that a vegan is going to be eating anything from Beyond Meat. When you think about it, that just wouldn't make much sense. I think the lure is an attempt to get folks to think they are doing something "good" and/or something "healthy." Neither of which is likely the case.

My APRN down at the Heart Failure Clinic says I need to eat chicken and beef. No processed anything as the 1st thing they do is dump a whole lot of salt in it. As do all the fast food joints. Did you know that every crunchy Taco Bell taco contains 310mg sodium? I have to keep my intake of sodium to about 1500mg. Pizza is worse!

Not necessarily a hardcore vegan, but someone who wants to do it because it’s “in”.

I think that's pretty accurate.
And, yes...there's a ton of salt in this stuff.
