Hi folks. Nice 2nd generation version of the Fender Forum! Thx for a smooth handover from Chris. Great catch on the baton, Mfitz! Love the color of the background.
Now back to business. I slammed my 30 year old glass French press into the quartz counter and it exploded. So I have decided to get a cappuccino/latte maker. Soliciting input, please.

I will watch carefully. After years of drip brew we tried Keurig. Convenient but coffee marginal at best. I had had a French press a few years back but it kinda seemed like a lot of trouble for what you got. I was gifted a French press for Christmas but have not tried it out yet. We have a Mr Coffee Espresso but it is nothing to write home about. I hear the trick is to find a machine that gets the water hot enough but I don't have a recommendation, just best wishes on your quest.

I don’t drink coffee, but most of the coffee drinkers that I know have switched to a Keurig for the convenience. Just about every one of them says it’s not as good.

Keurig machines produce a crap ton of waste.
A regular drip machine with good coffee is a good start. Works for me as I drink black coffee.

I have a Mr Coffee drip for backup (and guests....) and I am surviving as long as I jam the basket full of a good grind and tamp it down. I am convinced that hi temp and pressure is vital to a good brew. I don't have enough years left to waste on a meager brew. The minutes are clicking away.....

Technivorm makes a drip brewer with adjustable temp that sounds like a superior stsyembut i cant justify 3 bill's gor a coffee brewer.

I have two sizes of French Press, an Australian drip setup and a Mokka pot that works on my induction stove.
I use the Mokka pot almost exclusively as the Italian roast I prefer suits it.
We have a few local roasters and I will use the other methods if they suit the type of beans I have in stock.
I have never had a really good cup or mug of coffee from a pod machine. Any waste from my coffee brewing can be easily composted. Not easy to do with pods.

Melitta single cup filter holder. Wifey doesn't drink coffee, so I make mine one cup at a time.

Love my mokka pots. I use a stove top steamer for the milk.

I sprang for a Technivorm Moccamaster about two weeks ago. It does make great coffee. Water temp around 195 - 205 is a must and this unit does that well.
Before this I was using an inexpensive drip machine, but I would “bloom” the grounds with a cup of appropriately-hot water first. It was a hassle, but the results were adequate.
I also roast, so coffee around Lefteeville is a “thing.”

I am on my 2nd Cuisinart drip coffee maker. I grind my own Costco Supremo beans and have no desire to change it up. When my current coffee maker dies, I'll get another Cuisinart.

My wife and I like strong coffee so our every day is Chock Full of Nuts, and fresh ground Starbucks house blend or Viennese. We found that the simple Black and Decker coffee maker produces the hottest temp coffee. On occasion I use a small French press. Oh on rare occasions actually use an old fashioned perk coffee maker. We have an old electric unit for espresso and cappuccino.

I have a Capresso drip coffee maker that gets the water hot. I had a Technivorm for a short time and thought it was highly overrated. The innards of the Technivorm are top quality but the one I bought had the thermal carafe which didn't keep the coffee hot and had a sloppy pour. I got rid of it and bought the new Capresso which is a bit over a hundred dollars with the heated base which keeps your coffee hot unlike the thermal carafe. It also has an auto shut off after two hours which is great. The Keurigs shouldn't be allowed to sold due to the high rate of plastic garbage they generate. I'm not a tree hugger by any stretch but imagine how much garbage they generate over the course of several years. It's crazy.

I'd be in trouble without the Kuerig in my office. There's no break room kitchen in our office and I refuse to clean up a coffee pot in a public restroom. Fortunately most of the k cups are designed to be broken down so you can dump the grounds an put the plastic into recycling.

Hamilton makes a Flexbrew thingy . It has Kcups on one side and a drip coffee maker on the other. Best of both worlds. It also has a single serving basket where you can put pods in or use grounds to make 1 cup at a time . I love mine.

La Marzocco if you’re filthy rich and want some Italian style for the kitchen to match the Ferrari 812 in the foyer.
Wega if you’re slightly rich.
I’m not sure if some of the consumer models get to 9 bar for the purists. I’m not sure most people would care. I see Breville get decent reviews online.
Me, I’m on a moka pot budget. Fancy stainless steel for about $60. Yeah, aluminum has a better coefficient for heat transfer.
Lots of options for milk foam if you’re into lattes.

It has a BOLD setting which really does make a difference. It seems to heat the water hotter and drip slower to extract maximum flavor. The Kcup side has 2 baskets. 1 for K cup and the other for grounds but the grounds cup is wide (not like those tine K cup sized screened ones) so you can easily knock the used ground in the waste can. If I make just 1 cup I use the Kcup side with the grounds basket. never had a drip or Keurig machine make coffee that good. I also dont need to add an extra scoop for the pot to make better tasting coffee.

It's probably been a decade or more since I went to Melitta pour over, haven't looked back. We do have a Nespresso machine that was gifted to us that we'll occasionally use. My gripe with good old fashion drip coffee makers is that the early runnings are the only worthwhile cups, and I detect a burnt flavor within minutes of sitting in the pot.

We've been doing the Melitta thing since the early 80's if memory serves.

I chased the low end of fancy coffee for years with a string of grinder pots and whole beans, and finally gave up last year. I then shopped for the hottest cheap drip maker I could find, I keep it descaled and clean, and I buy a cheap ground coffee a Jewish-Cuban girlfriend turned me onto. (Cafe Bustelo, I get mine from Aldi.) It’s considerably better than anything I was consistently able to brew before.
My partner, meanwhile is addicted to her Keurig. (My late wife was, too.) I tolerate the coffee, likening it to process cheese or Taco Bell. Drinkable, but not something you’d want to admit to doing.

San Francisco Bay French roast whole beans we've been buying through Costco for well over 20 years. Ground in our Barazza Encore burr grinder daily. Black. Can't really drink anything else anymore.

That is the 4th "best espresso maker" review that has the Breville Barista Express as #1. Now if I can just pry $580 out of my wallet. They and others also rate the De'Longhi EC155 for $100 as the best value. Hmmm, what else could I do with thee $480 difference??

Super Lazy here...
I've enjoyed a stiff brew of java my whole life.. and still don't mind instant heated up in a microwave, with a splash of reg milk. Wife uses the Mr Coffe machine with the filters etc.. She gets a whole lot of miles out of it. (only 1 coffe maker in ten years of using every day)
