A full-time music pal of mine who lives in Culver City has used them over the years and has spoken highly of them. Me, personally...I have no knowledge.

Received it today in pristine shape, good setup, good strings. Only thing I've done so far is raise the bass side of the pickups a bit. Nice guitar! Thumbs up to Truetone in Santa Monica and to Gretsch Guitars.

Beautiful guitar!
Glad to hear True Tone is still around. I only went a couple of times several years ago, their inventory was spotless. I bought an amp from them IIRC.

Have you received the guitar yet? If so, lets hear about it please. Looks like a great guitar Yep, I posted about it a couple posts above yours 😁 It arrived spotless. I was told it was hanging high in the shop but had no shop wear. Truth! Plastic still on pickguard, like new out of the box. Setup pretty much spot on, all I've done is tweak the pickup height a wee bit. Relief is good, binding and finish flawless. The neck profile is comfortable and unextraordinary. My first Gretsch so the whole master volume thing is new to me, I like it. The Cadillac Green is darker than I expected, like a darker shade of Sherwood Green that almost looks black at a quick glance from a distance. I like it. The only other finishes I'd probably consider on this model is Sweetwater's exclusive orange one that is a gorgeous wood grainy shade, and maybe the Aspen Green one. I've been really impressed with the MIK guitars. I wonder if this is made in the same factory as the Agiles or PRS lines. Another aspect of this guitar is it sounds good unplugged.

Thanks T-F, it really is a nice guitar. Its a good introduction to the Gretsch guitar scene at a mid-price level. I've been having fun discovering it's capabilities and it is a more diverse guitar than I expected.

Its a G5420TG, Made in Korea model. I have been jonesing for one for quite a while. At first the aspen green model caught my eye, then Sweetwater came out with an exclusive that has a really nice transparent orange. But when I saw this limited edition one in caddy green I was pretty set. Missed a few opportunities and then saw they started to disappear from the catalogues at MF and SW. Found this one at Truetone thru Reverb, they knocked off $100 and really, this has zero shop wear.
The closest I've had to this vibe of a guitar was a DeArmond Starfire Special years ago, then an Agile Cool Cat.
Now, to fight off the urge for some TV Jones pickups. Really, these pickups sound good, so no. For now. 😎

"The closest I've had to this vibe of a guitar was a DeArmond Starfire Special years ago, then an Agile Cool Cat" I wished I had gotten an Agile Cool Cat when they were out, But I would much rather have the guitar you just bought

The Cool Cat was a decent guitar. I made the mistake of trying some GFS pickups in there to Gretschify, fell short of the mark and preferred the stock alnico humbuckers. But yeah, I'll stick with the Gretsch.
Edit to add- I wouldn't doubt that the Gretsch and Agile were made in the same factory.

Beautiful Gretsch!
Truetone is the real deal. I spend a lot of time on the west side in L.A., and I love just browsing Truetone for an hour or so when I’m Santa Monica with time to kill. Their store inventory is obviously carefully curated - you’re not going to find clunkers straight out of the box just thrown up on the wall, and the vintage stuff is sweet too. Great selection of old amplifiers too. I’ve never seen so many boutique stomp boxes under one roof, either.

Truetone Music. Know it well.
When I arrived in Santa Monica, in 1994, I became a customer of Ace Music, which shortly thereafter closed. I purchased my first ES-335, a black Gibson like Roy Orbison played, from Ace. That guitar, now long gone.
Ken Daniels, the manager at Ace, then went into business with Paul Flynn, who ran the Ace repair department, as Truetone. I negotiated Truetone's first commercial lease when they opened up the shop; they've expanded a couple of times since then.
Ken sold the business to a new owner, who is also experienced in the music trades, a few years ago. I've kind lost touch since the sale and my departure from Santa Monica. But the store has always been great, focused on service, with a large new and used inventory. I've made many purchases there along the way. Ken is a top notch music person. I believe he is still there on a consulting basis. When I'm back in town, I always stop in.

Thanks for sharing Jimmy. Based on this one experience I'd have no problem dealing with them again or recommending them. It warms me that there are still solid brick and mortars out there. I really miss dealing with Motor City Guitar back in Michigan for the same reason. I spent so much time there I found my car in the parking lot on Google street view.
