I am curious if anyone has an experience with this effects unit. A friend has been bringing one to our weekly jam session and it appears to be a slick little unit eliminating the need for a pedal board. RK5 Signature Fly Rigv2

I've used one for about two years in my '90s cover band, and I also have two first-gen original Fly Rigs that I've used in my other band (one in our practice space).
I love them. They are extremely portable and pack an array of features in a simple, easy-to-use arrangement.
That said, I find the RK a little harsher in the OD department (duh) and the delay trickier to dial in, 'though I'm not sure why ... Still kicks butt, though.

I've been playing the Fly Rig 5 since it was introduced several years ago. I tried the RK version when it came out later but it was too gainy for me. I often plug straight in...but when I need stuff like delay, modulation, and selectable hard crunch, I plug into this Frankensteined FR5. The black box is a 12vDC power pack that will run the unit for more than 40 hours on a single charge. No need to run power for it, but the factory wall wart stays in the bag with it in case the power pack croaks. I made the board from 1/4" thick polycarbonate sheet; the steel cabinet handles prevent the input/output plugs from getting stomped on and broken off. The half-round aluminum bar prevents the teensy control knobs from getting stomped on, and the white PVC ring prevents the SansAmp from being accidentally switched off; it stays on all the time. The entire thing is smaller than a notebook and I carry it in a small padded laptop bag. Click on pic to enlarge

A friend has done something similar where he has also attached his Quilter amp to the board. The only cable he runs is to a speaker and it is a nice sounding rig.

Thanks Laker. I run this through a Quilter 45 that sits atop a 2x10 cabinet, so there must be something in the Fly Rig water One of these:

A recent bandmate used one when he couldn't pack his main board ($$$ in boutiques...). To be honest, I seldom missed much when he used the Fly Rig (but he was a tremendous player too :-)). I've been tempted to buy one but I've owned a few other multieffect units and I always go back to a pedal-packed board instead; but that's just me. I like instant access to adjustments. Only compromise there are my Line 6 modulation units but I set & forget them.

I have one of the RK5v1 units and it is excellent. I generally use it into my guitar amps but I have also used it direct and with headphones alone (with the SanAmp section active. It can be a great back-up should your main rig check out on you. It is a terrific unit, although I occasionally get a "bounce" from the soft-touch switches, which means I have to sometimes press the switch again to turn on or off the effect.
