I have been a diehard strat guy most of my electric career. That was my main gigging guitar for so long. I have had Gibsons for 7 -8 years and played them intermittently. It seems in the last couple of months I have been gravitating toward my 335 and now my LP. I guess with my aging hands they feel better to me and play easier . I love the tones through a Fender amp or Marshall , it doesnt matter .
Anybody else do the same? Its funny because I was a strataholic when I found the FDP, but now im just a Gibson/Martin guy. Shhhh.

No
I tried on occasions as I love P90 guitars but I'm too comfortable with longer scale Fenders along with the pickup tone.

I’ve noticed that I tend to have a preference for my LP or my start on and off. It’s weird but after putting some thought into it, I think my preferences for either guitars depends on whether I’m just kinda been using the same one over and over and have the urge to have a “different” guitar so that triggers my preference for the other guitar.

That was me a few years back too. This time I think it’s more that it takes more effort to play my Fender’s . Seems like arthritis is more of a factor this time around.

I started on Gibson and gib copies. Took a while to figure out I have a strong preference for a 12 inch radius. So now I have a G&L Legacy, like a strat with a 12 inch radius. Heaven for me. Also have a PRS, G&L is my number one.

Me too! But I'm more of a PRS SE guy. I have been playing my Heritage a lot lately. But for gigging I want a guitar I can trust that doesn't cost thousands of dollars. I have vertigo and it seems to be getting worse. So I don't want to fall while playing my Heritge. I have a PRS SE that needs a bridge pickup upgrade but I want one of the new ones. And like the op I have been feeling better with a shorter scale so I ordered a SE 245. One of these. Should be here by Tuesday. www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SE245SVS--prs-se-245-standard-vintage-sunburst

"Seems like I'm moving away from Strats to Gibsons . Anyone else do the same and haven't looked back?" Yes. At least five or six times a month The first guitar I bought (at the Patrick AFB exchange!) was a Yamaha classical. My first electric was a Strato-copy, and I stuck with Fenderish stuff for years. When I was able to spend the money I got a Les Paul...then an SG, another Les Paul, a Flying V... Throughout all this I was building guitars too. I generally play whatever the Great Magnet directs my hands toward. They're like tools that do certain things right for the music at hand. I love 'em all. I am extremely fortunate to have several 'holy grail' guitars, and that contributes to the problem. However, the guitar that consistently plays and sounds best in my ten thumbs is a Les Paul.

My PRS and G&L are both the cheaper import model, do I guess I can afford to drop them. In fact all my guitars were made in Korea (i think its Korea). I have a Crafter acoustic that is very nice too. My last LP only lasted a few years, just did not bond with it. In the 80s I had an LP custom for 8 or 9 years that I really did like. I dunno. I shop hard till I find THE ONE, sometimes. ...ramble on.

OP/yes, been there.. and back. lp std. bb bridge pu got me all excited for a year or two. Thought I'd never mess around with a strat again. Until the bite of a tele lured me back in. The following lightweight strat with a perfect neck sealed the deal at casa mojoe. And a booster. Into a jtm. Still, that heavy untunable gibby hit where it hurt. 😁

For my 40+ years of playing, I've tried several times to become a Strat guy. I really have! I've owned about half a dozen but they didn't stick around long. The only one that's left is a Carvin bolt and it gets played occasionally. I am, however, an avid Tele fan.
While I don't own a Gibson, I do have an Epi LP Custom Pro. From what I've read, it's made to identical Gibby LP specs but it's assembled in China. The Probuckers in it are exceptional. I also have an Agile Goldtop knockoff that I installed Lollar P90s. It plays and sounds great. With these two, I don't feel I'm missing anything because they don't say Gibson on the headstocks.

LPs and SGs, yes, a couple Telecasters, but only one Strat* which has never really clicked. Maybe because it's a Mexican body with an aftermarket neck with a Fender decal. I just don't like it, which seems like a shame, as it's light, it's comfortable, has nice pickups. Years ago a friend had a sienna burst s-s-h Strat and I felt the same about it, just blah.

"Seems like I'm moving away from Strats to Gibsons . Anyone else do the same and haven't looked back?"
I went in the opposite direction. I started on bass, then switched to guitar and was a Gibson guy - mostly SGs. Then I quit playing for several years. When I started again, Strats were my thing. Now I mostly play bass but when I play guitar it's usually on Warmoth Tele bodies with Strat contours and whatever pickup configuration I decided they should have.

Haven't looked at a Fender I was willing to plunk down $$ for in years.
Bought Gibsons straightaway instead, but they're weird oddball ones.
Axcess neck joints, the super-wide fretboards, THOSE make me very, very, very happy.

I did the exact opposite.
Used to play Les Paul Customs into JCB800s and Plexis.
In my late 30s (late 90s early 2000s) Wanting that Fender big E string tonality, I tried a Strat but being a Les Paul guy my palm always rested on the bridge. With a strat, my pinky or ring finger was always rolling down the volume. So I decided to try a Telecaster. I didn't know a thing about Telecasters, at the time I thought Strats and Telecasters sounded the same lol.

Yup, I was playing my green 93 Beck Strat all the time for the last several years. Picked up a Les Paul Traditional and found my new favorite lead tone. As my fingers crave easier action and bends these days, the Lester neck is so smooth. Also picked up a Ibanez AZ series super Strat (my #2) that kills on clean funky better than the Fender. I'm sure I'll put "greenie" back in rotation, but for now Gibson is the winner.

I went from Teles to Strats to 335’s to my 1960 Harmony Meteor.
My search is over.

Being an old timer from the early years of R&R, I started off with Telecaster, Strat, and Jazzmaster. Wasn't till the 90's when I got my first Les Paul. Even then, my go-to's were the Fenders. But recently, I have acquired a couple very nice Lesters, a Nighthawk and an SG Elegant. Had an affair with a PRS in the meantime. These days, for gigs, I tend to go with the LP's.

Never really been a Gibson fan. For electrics, Strats and Teles. I almost bought an SG once back in the 70's and I always liked the 335 but never owned either. Les Pauls, while great looking are totally meh to me.

It happened to me.
I found myself loving my Les Paul with P-90s more and more, and liking the tone of my Strats and Teles less and less.
I have a White Falcon with humbuckers I use now too.
I'm selling off most of my Fender stuff, I just don't use them much anymore.

Hi! I always had a Strat and Tele at home, but for band/live-use it was Gibsons (and Epiphones) almost exclusively for the last 10 years or so. Only recently I got back into Fenders, thanks to a very, very nice road-worn Tele - which almost sounds like a Les Paul with more "air" cheers - C.

I always wanted a 335. After getting one , I was hooked. I love a Lester too , but finding a lightweight one can be challenging. The 335 though is tonal heaven to my ears.

I bought a Les Paul Studio probably about 16 years ago and never played it much, for the usual reasons, it would go out of tune, sounded muddy, etc.
But then I got a Dan Erlewine book and took the time to properly set it up, and now I really like it, and play it most of the time. The shorter scale works better for my slightly arthritic fingers, too.

Started off with a 335...stupidly sold it (I was 17!). Had a couple of beaters, then an 83 strat. Then I got hooked on teles. I have one strat, one LP, and a couple of teles. I’m the single coil guy in our worship band, but I do like my LP (7.8 lbs.). I just bought a Gretsch 2655 p 90 so the semi/hollow body is covered and for scratching my P90 itch. I seem to go by what my ears want to hear that day or whenever they want to hear a different sound(s). Oops, I forgot, I had a Kay Galaxy first. Wish I still had it sometimes.
