How does the collected wisdom on MT2 rule on Eastman guitars? I gather they are pretty darn good... and I see they have they a Gold Top LP-style with P90s. Costly, to be sure, but I gather Eastman makes pretty good guitar. And a laid-off fella can always dream, right? So, how do you rate Eastman against the Gibson line up (or any others that may be interesting.)
TIA

They do make a good guitar. I haven't tried the solid bodies. The archtops are great for the money... there are a few things about them I'd change if I was in charge, but for the money, it is hard to complain. The acoustics sound great and are built well. I've seen a couple come through where the set up was far off enough I ended up tossing the saddle and starting from scratch on that... but, I have a habit of doing that pretty often. The effort was worth it, because they were all good instruments after the fact. I wouldn't expect that datum to be of any relevance to the electrics, as weird bone nuts and saddles seem to happen a lot on the "high end Chinese" acoustic guitars across a few brands; the names of the other brands elude me at the moment, but there are a handful that do that often.
Edited to add that I actually did quite a bit of work on an Eastman 335, but forgot when I made the first post. I thought it was a great guitar, and hard to put down. Definitely the best guitar of that body style you'll find in that price range. The customer bought it used, and it LOOKED like whoever sold it swapped pickups and then put the originals back in in a horribly sloppy way so I had to do a full rewire. I am 80% sure it was the original pickups and they did sound good... good enough that I wouldn't feel a need to immediately swap them out, but not good enough to blow out of the water some of the other options out there. That said, it looks like the ones you're looking at have Lollars, which are some of the best things out there, IMO.

I've never handled one of their electrics, but I have had my hands on several of their acoustic archtops and they are wonderful. The QC is extremely high; I've never seen one that's sub-par, and they use very nice woods--considering where they're made.

I played one in a shop once. While ok, it was just above average.
