Great, now I have to try another string... Seems like a never ending Quest. My first pure nickels were Dr. Pure Blues , then found D’Addarrios to be better and that is what I have used fir last 3 years. For years it has been TI Jazz flats on 4 string basses and LaBella low tensions on my 5 string basses. Will be no change there. Glad I settled on the bass strings. Those get expensive an the saving factor there is TI Jazz flats last 5-8 years

I have a bass that I built in 2008 and has only ever had one set of strings on it. You guessed it... TI Flats!

I never did care for the DR strings and their compression winding. They just never had the output I wanted.

On the subject of acoustic strings, I tried a set a while ago, and can't remember the name... some dude's initials. I think he was the mastermind back in the day at Dean Markley and has a new start up or something. They were pretty darn good.
(yeah, that wasn't helpful, I know)

I never did care for the DR strings I actually used them for quite a while a number of years back (quite a few years...). I liked them, but then I was having trouble intonating NEW strings. Turns out the windings on the heavy strings were separating from the core wire. Even though the string looked normal, they were seriously defective. Gave up on that.

Did you bend the end in a 90 degree before installing and cutting them. If not any round core string can separate whereas the hex core grabs the outer windings securely.

John Pearse Phospher Bronze were my favorite strings on this particular Acoustic. They are the benchmark I will be comparing the Curt Mangun string with.

I'm still using (and happy with) the John Pearse phosphor bronze strings for my Guild F47RC.
As for those DR Pure Blues...I can't remember how I installed them (typical installation for either Strat or Tele). But I wasn't the only one having trouble with them at the time. Seems there were lots of unhappy customers for DR back in those days. Haven't had any problems since with GHS. But sounds like the Curt Mangan stuff might be interesting, too.

No, the brand name is some variation the guy's initials, and it is a very new brand. I tried a few google searches and can't figure it out. Guess that is the danger of having a dull brand name... I think I might have the packaging still at the shop, though I haven't been there in over a month.
Yeah, still not helpful.

Try going to a place like juststrings.com and they have a list of all the brands. That way you can read through them and see if anything rings a bell.

Yep, I strung both my parlor and Martin D17M a year ago with Pearse 200L's. I really dig them and they still feel and sound fairly decent. The Martin usually only comes out for recording, the parlor more every day noodling. They just seem like good ol' fashion warm and (forgive the cliche) organic sounding strings. I will likely continuing using them but am always up for some experimentation.

I’ll order D’Addarios on sale from time to time. But Mr. Mangan get 90% of my business. The way I look at strings... Even if you only paid $500 for a guitar, what’s an extra couple bucks per set of strings? 🤔 It would be nice if bass string sets were only an extra couple bucks...

I've been an Ernie Ball user for most of my life, bouncing between regular and power slinkys.
Same here - Regular 10's or Super Slinky 9's. I've tried others - GHS, D'Ad, etc...but Ernie Balls just seem right. Nice sound, feel, and they seem to last a bit longer.

When I tried a set, a customer had brought in a few distribution samples... not sure if he was a sales person or a potential endorser or what. Right after I tried them I was able to find the guy's website, but I can't seem to find it now.
They were a really good, loose sounding 80/20, kinda in the same realm as the TI acoustic strings, but a little less dainty... so, maybe a mid-way between those and a Martin Marquis?

I had the same issue with the new fender Jimi Hendrix pure nickle. My intonation was all over the place and finnaly gave up and cut them off and installed my GHS Boomers

Checking out my rather large stock of strings it seems I have quite a few 10 pack boxes of D'Addario Balanced Tension 9-40. Guess I must like em if I bought that many? I do have a silly amount of stock of many brands and sizes though, but those seem to be the biggest quantity in stock.

I went through a big string kick several years ago and tried them all, including the "boutique" pure nickels like DR, Pyramid, Snake Oil, etc.
Now I just use plain old Ernie Ball slinkys. Guess I'm not that picky.

Well all my strings arrived from Curt Mangan, Nice packaging. I installed the coated 12-16-24w-32-44-54 medium light phosphor bronze on my Yamaha parlor and here are some initial impressions. Replacing the year old moderately played John Pearse 200L's the first thing I noticed was how incredibly loud this guitar became. Strong piano-like lows, crisp. I ordered these because I always liked the coated elixrs I had on my Taylor GS Mini but found them a little too waxy feeling due to the coating. These don't seem to be as noticeable and the string squeak is greatly reduced. Too early to discuss holding tuning/intonation but at this juncture I'll give them 2 thumbs up.

"More so than had you replaced with another set of John Pearse?"
I kinda think so. I don't know how much a 54 low E vs a 53 will factor in, but these have a lot more presence and energy than the JP 200L set. That said, I really liked the John Pearse strings and their thing, which seems to be a warm and tempered sound I found really great to record tracks with.
