"I guess "best" is so subjective. I tend to weigh that against price. The StewMacs punch way above their price."
I agree 100%.
Pickups are an interesting thing because they rely on other stuff to contribute (good or bad) to their sound. A pickup that sounds great in one guitar can sound lackluster in another.

The use of the word "subjective" is not allowed in this thread! 😁
Nah, I totally get it. I was just looking for favorites and personal experience. A grand example of one type of pickup working in one guitar and not another has been an experience with Lindy Fralin Real 54's. By far my favorite sound in my favorite guitar. Ordered another set and tried it on another Strat and found them highly disappointing. So much so that it made me wonder if there was inconsistencies in the build.
But back to the P90. I've monkey'd with my 50's trib so much I can't remember what pots were originally in there. I know I've got 500k in there now with the minis, seem to think maybe 300k and 500k mix when stock.

Yeah, 300k volumes and 500k tones are stock.

Btw - that pot combination was also used in Tribs with humbuckers. Swapping the 300k volumes to 500k makes those “right.”

I have 500k pots in my Thinline that has the KA Stealth 90 in the neck and GFS lil puncher in the bridge, works ok. I'm guessing the Kent Armstrong noiseless feature makes in favor the 500k pots. I wouldn't want that pickup any darker and it has a remarkably Tele-like middle position with the lil puncher. Many noiseless pickups are noiseless because the use two small coils reverse wound of one another to cancel noise and will be slightly darker and more suited to 500K Pots loading them instead of 300k or even 250k. I know on some the second coil was a reverse wound dummy coil sitting below the active coil so as to cancel noise but not pickup signal.

Thanks Leftee. I'm toiling, pondering returning the Trib to its intended form. But I really like the mini hums in there too. And I see Stewmac has their P90s discounted. And my Stewmaxx free shipping expires next month. And I got an unexpected refund from my homeowners insurance. 🤪

Yeah LTB, I don't know the construction of the Kent Armstrong Stealth 90's, they are very P90 like and *almost* noiseless. They are a bit low output too.

I had a set of Kent Armstrong pickups in the Gibson SG I sold they were vintage PAF style no covers alnico 2 that I loved. The tone. I tried to order dome with nickel covers for my SG Standard but he doesn’t make them. Ordered his PAFs with alnico 3 with covers but did not like them so I put Fralns in it. Too bad really
