Hard to believe...whenever it comes on I have to tune in...
Best part: Jack walking trough the hotel flailing his arms aimlessly..( cause I've done it!!)
Worst part:..when he started hugging what he thought was a hot naked woman...and he looks in the mirror...yikes!... that cackle of hers still creeps me out!

Yeah, that was pretty creepy!

That kid talking to his finger didn't do it for me. ET did it better.

If you've had the pleasure of staying in a big hotel during the last couple of months,as I have... 200 + rooms ... 5 % occupancy ...
"The Shining" is now reality ...
Leaving my room, I expect Jack to appear with an axe in hand and a glint in his eye ...
He hasn't... yet

We spent a couple nights at the Stanley Hotel while on our honeymoon, and have stayed there a few times since. It's a cool old place, especially in the off season when Estes Park isn't jammed with tourists.
Only the exterior scenes were filmed there, though. The interior shots were at a location back east somewhere, I think.

The winter outdoor scenes were allegedly shot at the Lodge at Mt Hood in Oregon ... could be myth... It's a pretty cool place to see if you're in the neighborhood..

I like the movie, but the book (as is usually the case) is better. My favorite Jack line:

I watched the sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep, a while ago. Certainly not as chilling but still a good movie I thought. Once again, the book is probably better.

I'm likely in the minority but it didn't do much for me, certainly didn't scare me in the least. Jack was good, but Olive Oil whining the whole time was nails on a blackboard.

Stephen King has a quite a sense of humor ...warped, twisted, maybe ... But humor.. I consider some of his work more black comedy, than horror ...

That big, white DVD box set was one of the first things I got after buying my first DVD player. I was an early adopter in the late '90s. I was more passionate about movies than pretty much anything else at the time. I kinda feel past those movies at this point, but they were a gateway to a very different kind of storytelling for me. Maybe I'll toss it on soon for old time's sake.

Kubrick has always been one of my fav directors, and there are some pretty good articles written over the years about all of the stuff that he supposedly threw into The Shining. Some of the theories are pretty crazy - it was Kubrick confessing to faking the moon landing being one of them. Room 237 is a documentary about all of the "conspiracies". There is a documentary on Netflix now called "Film Worker," which is a melancholy story about Kubrick's trusted assistant for many years who was pretty much destroyed by his association with him.

I was a big fan of Kubrick films in college days but find his films do not impress me as much as they have aged.

Hedge Maze was shot in England, as are much of the movie. Look up the movie on WWW.IMDB.COM and select filming locations. Love that site.
