You took a pain pill and haven't opened it yet?? For shame! Seriously, I'm glad it went ok. Hope you heal well and quickly. I've been playing each on and off during the day. The weight difference is quite noticable. The Jr comes in at 6 pounds 8oz and the Special at 8 lbs 2 is. HA HA HA! Ya, I don't know why, but I always do this. I should have the second one showing up any time. The first one hasn't even shipped yet. Go figure. Thanks for the well wishes.

So what did you end up getting? I got 2 blue specials and a red junior. The 2nd blue should be here tomorrow.
I have to say the special is really nice.

I ordered 3 Specials. Two Worn Cherry, and one that is in Blue Stain. I have two delivered so far, one of which I have opened. The Worn Cherry. First impression of the build is excellent. There is one tiny problem I haven't figured out yet. I have a tiny bit of fret buzz up closer to the head stock. I'm not sure if the nut is cut too deep, or if the truss rod needs a tweak. The action is lower than I'm used to seeing on a Gibson, so I may just need to raise it up a bit at the bridge. That's what I'm leaning towards. I'm taking it easy with my knee surgery, so I haven't sorted it out yet. I haven't' plugged it in yet, but tuned it by ear, and it sounds resonate acoustically. It's a light guitar at 7 lbs, 5 ounces.
The body and finish are beautiful as well as the neck. The guitar is very slick to the touch, on the body, and the neck. Very smooth, and very easy to slide the hand. I absolutely love the guitar so far, I just need to work out what attention the neck needs.
It looks like a 1 piece body. I'm not sure I'm even seeing a joint. I see a spot that probably is a joint, but I can't be sure. It's that well blended if it is a joint. I'll get some pictures up.
The other box should be the Blue Stain. I'll probably open that later today. The third Worn Cherry is supposed to be here the 22nd.
Oh, btw, I really like the tuners. I like those smaller tuner knobs. They're easier to grab with my meat hooks. LOL
A very nice instrument. I can't believe the price we got these for. Hell the used one's at GC are over 700.00 bucks.

That's why I ordered 3. The one that isn't here yet, the damaged one, is the one I'm most excited about. I've bought damaged goods before and have always been pretty happy.
I'm happy with the build of these though I am surprised at the weight difference between the 2. The Jr almost feels like a toy its so light. But the build and electronics are great! I never had an issue with Gibson P90s but have had one with Lollars and they sounded very nice. Maybe if I keep 2 of these I'll stick a set in one. Like yours, this each appears to be 1 piece of mahogany.
I should add that I never got the Laney fired up but have been playing each through a Mesa Boogie VTwin. Its a 3 channel 2 12AX7 preamp that has a headphone out. So, Ive been jamming through it and my elcheapo Monoprice headphones. And each guitar sounds from very sweet all the way to raw. I need to get them into an amp though.
Either way I doubt I'll keep the Jr and will also sell one of the specials. More than likely. Maybe.

the damaged one, is the one I'm most excited about. One of the best deals I ever scored was a used 1997 Gibson Les Paul Special off of Craig's list used. The guitar needed a lot of cleaning, and new strings, I polished he frets. It's one of the bests most resonate guitars I've ever played. It's in my avatar. 350.00 dollars with a brown Deluxe HSC. Oddly enough these are still on Gibsons website. Specials listing at 999 and Juniors 899. Ya, I noticed that too.

C’mon, some of us live vicariously.

No sun here today. I'd like to get some nice light, and take some outdoor shots. Supposed to be sunny tomorrow. I will put up photos. The Blue stain looks pretty dark in low light. In very low light you could mistake it for a black guitar. I don't know if they're all like that, or if it's just this one. I fine with that, but I wasn't expecting that.
I will get some photos up soon.

They're great guitars. The build quality is there. So far I'm very happy with them. I'll admit I haven't' had a lot of time with them yet. I've been trying to take it easy on the knee, and the Cherry needs some neck attention. I think a truss rod adjustment, but to my eye the nut cut looks to be a fraction lower than I'm used to seeing. I just don't know yet for sure which it is. WCS, if a have to replace the nut, I ain't going to bitch. All it takes is one noober to mess up an other wise perfect guitar, and for the price I'm beside myself.
The neck on the cherry is quite dark. Darker than it looks in the photos in my link. I did manage to get some photos today, and I also bought another Blue stain. The neck on the my current Blue Stain looks like it needs some sauce, and it will darken up nice.
Honestly, I don't know how Gibson can make money on these things. I know they have building them down to a science, but my God..

Finally! I was drumming my fingers here. I'm glad I got them too. I'm probably going to sell 2 and buy a case for the one I keep. Nice pictures. What do you put on your fingerboards?

I use Dunlop Formula 65 on the whole guitar, body, and neck. It doesn't take much on the body, and back of neck. I go heaver on the fret boards because they really suck it up.

Congrats gents! Those look nice though I have to say that I'm no fan of that pick-guard. When did they start using that?

Congrats gents! Those look nice though I have to say that I'm no fan of that pick-guard. When did they start using that? I like it, and I'm affectionately naming it the Battle Axe pick guard.
They did this to make the guitar simpler to build. The electronics are Battle Axe mounted. I don't remember when they started this, but it was a few years back I believe.

Welp, I had to return the first one I ordered. Showed up damaged big time, and I don't think it happened in transport. Somebody let this guitar take a face plant when it was in the store. I guess nobody noticed. I'm not surprised they didn't see the neck crack, but the knob blown out is pretty hard to miss. It probably just wasn't inspected. At a glance, you wouldn't know anything was wrong with the guitar.
I can tell by the way it's damaged that it had to have to fallen straight forward, and the neck slapped the floor. Problem with that is what sticks up the highest? THE NUT!
So all that force goes right into the nut and splits the neck. Also the volume knob was pushed in so hard it blew the inside back of the knob out where the pot stud bottoms out in the knob. It's a transparent knob, so you can see the inside of the knob blown out.
There's a small ding in the body near the input jack. The knob, and ding alone, and I'd of kept it. But the neck is broken. It's not your typical break, at a sharp angle, the crack goes parallel to the fretboard. Probably fairly stable, but another impact could do it in. I told them I'd keep the guitar if they let me have it for 200.00, and refund the rest, but they wouldn't go for it.
Honestly, I'm pretty bummed about it because, the guitar was otherwise awesome. 7lbs 2 oz, and perfect wood grain. I never even tuned it up. I inspected the guitar as soon as I took it out of the case, and immediately found the damage.
If you look close at the low E string side photo where the crack is, look at the butt end of the nut. You can see little dark lines on the nut. I think that is from the E string sliding off the nut, and around to the side. Knowing that, perhaps it didn't fall straight, but forward, and angled. Somehow that string was pushed off the nut, and left those marks on the nut. I didn't even notice that until I looked at the photos.
