Many. I don't know the actual total. I probably could open a small shop.

This R8 is 7.1 lbs with a nice fat neck; everything about it is perfect for me, and some days I cannot put the thing down. It is a holy grail Les Paul. I went looking for the "Like" button! This is gorgeous!

A buddy of mine's room mate just passed away. He has a few guitars, including a Les Paul. Where can I find the serial number and will this tell me what year this geetar is? Thanks

The serial number is on the back of the headstock; it will tell you the year of manufacture. It is a huge help to know what the model is (Standard, Traditional, etc.). Look: www.gibson.com/Support/Serial-Number-Search

I hope the Goldtop works out for you Blacksunshine. I have 2 Les Pauls, a 1975 Special 55 (reissue of the original Les Paul Special), and a mid 90's Cherryburst.

The serial can sometimes help, but not always. The details of construction and components are inportant in helping to determine the model. Features such as color of finish, a bound or unbound fingerboard, binding color and type on the body, color of plastic parts, gold or silver hardware, headstock ornamentation, fingerboard marker type and color, type of tuning machines, type of bridge, type of pickups/covered or uncovered humbuckers, type of jack plate, type of control knobs, etc.

My advice, strike while the iron's hot.

Here she is. Plays and sounds like a dream. And a bonus that I didn't even know about, it has coil taps for both pickups. Very happy! i.ibb.co/QbyM7X4/goldtop-1.jpg

A few more details, it was made in 2012. The guy supposedly bought it, opened the box to make sure it was the right guitar, and boxed it back up and stuck it in storage. I believe it, it's flawless. Well, flawless except for the ding down to the wood I put on it within 5 minutes of playing it. It met the metal corner of my Roland JC-120. (the ding is on the back, the white line on the front in the picture is just a reflection) Oops. That makes it a relic now, right?

Wow, that thing does look flawless. Well done. I like, but that reflection is driving me crazy.
That new ding is just a humidify port. They allow for quick acclimation.

Congrats, very good looking Goldtop.
Like the look of that Special too, and the V (Korina?), and the 70's hardtail strat.

I think the V is mahogany stained to look like the original Korinas from the late 50s, but I'm not 100% certain on that. I'm really amazed at how light the V is. I always assumed they would be heavy. It's turned into one of my favorite guitars, I can't wait to use it live. (if I ever get a live gig again, curse you, Covid)

False alarm for me. Someone sold the Gibson LP some time ago. Claimed to only get $700. I doubt that. But there were 3 other there. And Epiphone Invader? Sent serial to them for year. And Aria Pro Cardinal Series, never heard of them. Then a beat up G&L Skyhawk. Heard of them, not this model. Sent THEM and Email with serial #. From what I searched the Epi and Aria(Japanese guitar) maybe worth only about $400 - $500. The G&L about $750 - $1K. I told him I will let him know what I find out and he's on his own to sell them. Also just remembered to ask if there was an amp laying around. Oh well. One can dream.

Aria Pro series are very good guitars. Made in Japan; all top quality stuff.
Blacksunshine, that is a sweet looking LP. Coil split, not coil tap (common mistake). Play the devil out of it!

It's funny, if I was to choose I probably wouldn't actively seek out the option, but now that I have a guitar with that capability, I'm digging the flexibility! Serendipity!

Have we discussed in depth the virtues of the Les Paul Custom? The closest thing I've owned was an Arctic White Epiphone version years ago.
Talk me out of tracking one of those down once my Studio gets here and I start the hunt again.

I'm thinking a Custom in black would round out the Les Paul collection nicely, although a proper Gibson version of the Arctic White I used to have would be nice too.
EDITED: Now that I got to poking around, it was maybe Alpine White. It had an almost ice blue tint to it.

Talk me out of tracking one of those down once my Studio gets here and I start the hunt again. I scratched that itch with the HP Studios I ahve - 490/498 pickup combos, Plek, everything but the binding (and I don't need the rest of the cosmetics). My Arctic White one does the Sex Pistols/NY Dolls thing perfectly, to a point of absurdity.
