So IT came today. I purchased it from Sweetwater and they have been rock solid. All I can say is WOW! What a gorgeous guitar. The pictures don’t do it justice. It’s as light as a feather and I love the neck. Beautiful piece of mahogany and really dark fretboard too. I’ll report back with a mini review . Probably going to throw some new strings on it , oil the fretboard and do a setup this weekend.

I need to tell them. They can put that in my customer profile.

Yes , we’ll most importantly the candy is a nice assortment of tootsie roll , bit o honey, fireball taffy and a peppermint. Less importantly, it appears Gibson stepped up the game a bit with their case candy . It comes with a fold away utility set with various Allen’s, a truss rod wrench and some Phillips and slotted screwdrivers. I don’t really care for the fold away stuff as it’s clunky, but it’s better than what they have given in the past.

I wish they'd just put a big bag of Atomic Fireballs in there for me.

I like the fireballs and peppermints , I also really like smarties of all things. I could do without bit o honey or the taffy.
The 61 burst buckets are nice pickups . I’m a big fan of the 57s though. They work well with everything I’ve had.

I like it all, but could do without the peppermint. I give the boh to my wife.
I like the taffy. It’s my dentist’s favorite candy that I eat.

Love Bit O Honey but the last piece I had pulled a crown out.
And congrats on the new SG budg!

61s it says. The regular standard have 490 t and r . Imagine they sound better than 490's. I changed mine to Fralin Pure Vintage pickups. Much better.

To be fair though , most of the 490s seem to be coming with 300k pots. When I get some time the 300k pots along with the pcb control board in my lester will be gone. The 61 Sandard SG comes with 500k along with orange drop caps. To me the bridge pickup of any Gibson should be all about grit and bite. This has it in spades.

The 490s toughen up with 500k volume pots. My Faded SG rawks hard after the swap. I actually just swapped the volume pots on the board. It was a bit fiddley, but it came out just fine. Oddly enough, the tone pots were 500k.
That same board on a P90-equipped Gibson sounds fantastic.

I have always liked the 490r pickups in Gibson’s.

Outside of Frank Z, one of my favorite SG players is Gary Louris of the Jayhawks. Very melodic, great lyrics, with plenty of energy and punch:
