I don't know if the pandemic has anything to do with it or not but my cable internet connectivity and speed has gone in the toilet for about the last 3 months. When it's working it is quite fast, except for when it's not. I did a speed test this morning. Once it had download speeds of 98Mbs which is awesome. Then it was .2Mbs which is useless but better than when I get disconnected. It's 8:40AM and I have been disconnected 14 times since 5:00AM just today.
It is not just me. My neighbor has the same provider and she is experiencing the same problems. I cannot get in contact with anyone at the provider. I have called their tech support and waited on hold for over an hour, left messages, used their online chat and waited for over an hour for a response and got nothing, I have even used their contact email form on their website to no avail...and no, it is not Xfinity. It sounds like they don't want to do business with me anymore. Unfortunately I live in semi-rural Tennessee and they are the only available provider in my area, and they know it. I can go satellite but the speed is 1/4 what they offer and 25% more expensive. I am seriously considering doing away with them entirely and just using my 5G phone as a hotspot and getting internet for nothing but what I pay for my phone bill. I have unlimited data with it.
Is anyone else having this problem?

Ours was definitely suffering in the beginning, with 3 additional computers and all of us being home.
I really need to have it upgraded now that basic at everything you own connects to your WiFi now.

It hasn’t, but our move has. We’re living on 4G LTE until we can get the rural internet provider out here. I put in the order 3 weeks ago. They told me mid August.

I called to have Verizon come out to upgrade me to a faster speed, which will require an equipment upgrade and a home visit. They flat out told me “no”, they aren’t doing it now. Try again later. Phase 3 of our reopening is Monday, I’ll have to check on it.

That’s a big part of our delay. They slowed up their installs over the spring. They say they’re getting caught up now.

Seems to come and go, here. I assume that it's shear volume of traffic that is causing it to slow way down at some times and be just fine at others.

The bandwidth available at a certain link in the chain will get high utilization with more people working from home. 4K streaming won’t help either. Actually I’m not sure how providers can keep up with demand.

Slow, I can understand but complete loss of service, multiple times per day, I don't get.

Part of your problem is that it's cable. The infrastructure for cable TV wasn't designed for providing bi-directional data transfer, it was intended for downstream delivery of RF. And you're sharing your 'drop' with your neighbors (potentially a lot of them), which is why they are having problems too. The more of them on that drop, and the busier they are, the worse it will get.
The solution is fiber, but in an area like yours, the providers don't want to invest in the expense of laying new infrastructure.

I finally got hold of tech support through the online chat function on their website. I was amazed that I got someone immediately at that time of day. After a lot of back and forth and them telling me what to do, and me telling them everything I had tried to do to remedy the problem, they finally looked at my line and told me there was a low signal going to my house and that was the problem. I knew it was on their end because there was nothing I could do to make it work any better inside my house. I even ran a hard-wired direct line from the modem to my computer to be sure it wasn't my Wi-Fi. Even when I would lose my internet connection my Wi-Fi showed it was still connected but I wanted to make sure. Re-booting my modem and router made no difference. I had tried that many times.
Okay, so, the cable guy is supposed to be here between 1:00 and 2:00 Monday afternoon. We all know the jokes about cable guy appointments and how they are based on actual statistics. Hopefully this will be an exception.

We tried to watch a movie on Amazon last night and had to give up and turn it off. It was re-buffering about every minute and a half.
The internet wasn't much better last night. Better this morning, but still way short of "normal" speed.

I'm paying for 200 Mbps and get 30, on a good day. Cable company says the service platform I have is "UP TO 200" not a guarantee.
Crooks if you ask me. No fibre here and the only alternative is DSL at 5 Mbps. Which honestly is about the same quality as the 200 cable.

Hopefully this will be an exception. A couple of months ago we had to have The Cable Guy come out to fix our cable internet. He was scheduled for between 8am and noon. He showed up at 8am!!!

Jeese Henry. It must have been his first day and nobody explained the rules to him.
When mine is connected, and working as it should, I get 98Mbs, which was pretty standard until I started having connection problems. When it's slow I got .2Mbs. When it's disconnected I get...well, you know. 000000
