So now we have a coin shortage? Wowzers. I guess the mint cut back peoples hours, and people gave been hanging on to cash so now some stores do not accept cash payments or will give you an iou if they can't make change. Didn't really expect this, but yeah just giving up another cherry I guess. Anyone else run into this?

Didn't really expect this, but yeah just giving up another cherry I guess. Anyone else run into this? Twice since Thursday. One asked for exact change because if the shortage (which I had). The other wouldn’t accept cash, where previously they would, so I assume it’s related. In other news I have a huge bag of coins ready to turn in at the bank, should they permit use of the coin counting machine again soon.

Cash--especially coins--are such a pain. I hate the load in my pockets (or in my pants!!). Especially now, if I'm going into a store (which I'm not doing much these days), I don't even take my wallet. Just my plastic card. That much less to handle.

Apparently it is the travel of the money, as they circulate to fulfill a need. Apparently with less travel they go out faster than they are coming back so shortage.

A cashless society. My Grandfather warned me about this in 1972. Said we would have "credits" on a card.
In 1975 my Grandmother wanted to start a bottled water company, she got laughed at.

Grandkids of the near future, as coins disappear from the landscape:
"What are these pennies you speak of ... the ones that fall from Heaven? And is a 'pretty penny' better than an ordinary one?"
"Two old people were arguing today. One of them said, 'for two cents I would...'.... Was he offering his job skills or not making sense?"
"My Grandpa says 'two bits' is equal to a quarter. A quarter of what?"

I hate the load in my pockets (or in my pants!!). Especially now, I would think you outgrew that a long time ago.

Credit cards, like online banking and our present communications systems, are great until suddenly there is no internet available. We have put ALL of our eggs into one basket, hoping that there is no "off" switch. Oh yeah, we also gave up all privacy along the way.

suddenly there is no internet available So true. It's a fragile methodology.

The dinosaurs got along just fine without the internet. It's asteroids we have to watch out for. And the Flintstones.

I had said before that we should discontinue the penny. And that after that, just round the currency to one decimal place, the dime.
But how many items actually sell for less than a dollar? I think we should just go ahead and discontinue coinage altogether. Accountants already round to the dollar anyway.

^^and the nickle, too. I agree round to the dime. Actually, if keeping coins, all we need are quarters and a decently designed one dollar coin.
