How bad is it? I've never encountered them here in WA. Mosquito's are a bit of a problem here. Not super bad thank goodness.

I've not experienced them before either. Kind of a translucent gnat, I don't believe these ones bite but they are plentiful. Based on comments on Nextdoor, this area didn't really have them until a couple of years ago. My brother in Michigan told me they have made an appearance in the northern part of the state in recent years. Swarms that make it hard not to inhale them.

This was a pic my brother took last year at Mackinac lighthouse in Michigan. Ours here seem to be a lighter color.

We have them here in south western central Ohio. They are mostly a translucent green color. Mostly just annoying but they do bite usually between the ankles and knees. A friend of mine owns a Mosquito Joe franchise and they are working on updating their treatments to take care of them. They are here because of the mild winter we had last year. They are not a mosquito.

West desert and southern Utah have the biting “noseeums” and they are fierce! They hatch in April-May and die off when daytime temps reach 80 degrees.
In the Rockies, such as at my Cabin in Idaho, we call them snow flies because they congregate on residual snow banks and anything white. These are the non-biting variety but man are they prolific.

I thought this was going to be a flyfishing thread. At this point, I'm lucky to be able to tie a size 20 midge let alone a 22 or 24.
