So, Highstrung56 (or anybody else),
Sarah Jarosz is playing what in the above video, mandocello?
Cool sound.

I checked out the video. Some great voices! It's interesting because it sounded like they were all singing in a similar key. Maybe it was just my ears.

My last post should've read, "I checked out the videos (plural).
I came close to including Gladys Knight on list. She had a tremendous soulful voice.

Thanks for the response, Highstrung. She was evidently pulled from or withdrew from the site in your first link because it yields an error message.
Octave mandolin: interesting, I'd never heard of such a thing before. 21 - 1/2” scale length: between that of a mandolin and a mandocello. Very interesting sound: makes me think a little bit of the bouzoukis they sometimes use in traditional Irish music.
The FB is indeed a beautiful instrument but they sure don't give 'em away, do they? Yipes on that price! My wallet began whimpering as soon as I read it.
Sarah's vocal styling makes the lyrics a bit hard to decipher (at least, to my ancient ears) but, strangely, I find her voice so pleasing that I don't really care that much.

Taildragger!! wow, Thanks for Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings! There seemed to be about 8 hooks going on in that video which led me down another yootube hole.

Ain't this a great thread! Yes, indeed it is. I got a bit off track as far as "Top 5" but thanks to others posting here, I have found some new (or old) voices to explore.

Only one vote for Joni Mitchell ? She didn't make my Top 5, but would have been next on the list.
"Court and Spark" is a classic.

I don't recall Ann Wilson of Heart being mentioned. While I like her voice and think she's an immense talent, I wouldn't say she's a favorite.

I’m having deja vu over this, but here goes:
Karen Carpenter Patsy Cline Diana Krall Linda Ronstadt Dusty Springfield Brenda Lee
I went for a six pack, instead of just five.
And, as a bonus, my least favorite: Janis Joplin. Never did understand the hoopla over her.

Cinco to Janis Joplin. Mercedes Benz is as bad a song as I’ve ever heard. I like maybe 4 of Janis Joplin's songs, "Move Over" and "Half Moon" being the best of them.
IMHO, she didn't do herself any favors being backed by Big Brother early on. I didn't think much of them as a band.
She was really more of a shouter/screamer than a singer. Her heart was certainly in it, but I don't think she really had the gifts or discipline to pull it off.
