You'll be allowed a "do over" later...
After all, the chord we choose today may strike us as being overrated tomorrow.

Well, it is true that what comes before and what comes after can mean an awful lot when it comes to satisfaction. Especially if dissonance is involved

D minor is the saddest chord of all.
Sniff.

You know when guys grab a guitar at the guitar shop, plug in, and kerang out an A chord?
I always go for a D.
I couldn’t get A’s in school, either.

What's the opening chord to A Hard Day's Night? Nevermind, I'll pick C. I can play that one.
Or Levi's chords.

D minor is the saddest chord of all. Sniff. My first choice too, and for the same reason.

Depends. Whenever I pick up my acoustic, I usually start off with a G at the 3rd fret (not a barre chord). When I pick up an electric, I usually start with an A-minor. I'm not saying these are my favorites. Just the usual starting point.

I like the chord named Aurthur. That's what George Harrison told Paul McCartney the name of the chord was when asked what it was called.

Seventh flat fifths.
These showed up very frequently on the big band charts for my last band. Hated them. I think they were a plot by arranger/pianists who were messing with the guitarist. The Freddy Green groove meant that *snick* sound was produced with three notes at maximum. Me: play the major chord.
Last big band gig was three years ago. Haven't been confronted by one since

There's also the Alex Lifeson chord, the name of which is subject to heated debate. He's played it on a number of tracks but if memory serves, I believe it features most prominently near the start of Hemispheres. John Petrucci claims it is his "desert island" chord.

I was thinking about this some more today. And I realized I play a bunch of chords that I have no idea what they are. They sound good. But I couldn't name them if I tried. Some are the result of experimentation, while others I've picked up off a video of some artist somewhere (Doc Watson, SRV, etc.).

Yey - with that, I learnt something new today, thanks! I'm an open G no 3rd kinda guy, ie damp the A/5th string and 3rd fret on the B/2nd string. It sounds raw / gutsy / powerful / strident, even on an acoustic or with a clean amp.
