I noticed this in the dumpster a day or so ago. It's just a couple of houses down the street and I'm off today. Walked out to the front yard and saw it still there near the top of the pile. I have been wanting some bar stools for the Music Room and have never found exactly what I wanted (not that I have spent a lot of time looking). This one has some rungs pulled loose , but nothing broken. I can glue this little baby back together and it will probably be stronger than when it left the factory. It's maple so it's made of some strong durable wood. DSC_2231 by Larry Madsen, on Flickr I'll clean it up ... maybe paint it black and recover the seat in some black leather or vinyl. Nice bar stool and it will cost me next to nothing. My big regret is that it was all alone there in the dumpster. A couple of additional siblings would have been welcome. I guess you get what you get. "Free is for me!" ... as the saying goes.

Man, I'm trying to remember what it was, but that seat covering looks exactly like something from my past.
Nice score.

that seat covering looks exactly like something from my past Lots of furniture and maybe even drapes. In my prior life I cleaned a lot of sofas and such with that ... or patterns much like that. It's common for sure. The bar table I have in the music room came to me the same way. My neighbor across the street had put it out with the trash. I snagged it and removed the old busted up top and built me a new top out of scrap material I had sitting around. The base was nice cast iron, like you would see in a commercial bar setting.

Aha, yeah I think it was some bedroom drapes at our old cottage in Canada.

There are 400+ condos in my building. Unwanted but still usable items go on the covered loading dock out back. If no one wants it the trash men pick it up. After moving in I started to place our no longer wanted furniture pieces and older appliances on the loading dock. Our living room has an occasional table that we scored off the loading dock.
BTW, nice find Larry.

I took another stroll to the dumpster ... The owners had been back at the house this morning clearing out more stuff. Found these two guys in there. Once again both structurally good, a bit dirty, but solid. DSC_2235 by Larry Madsen, on Flickr

NICE score! Recycle when you can; I am all about re-using stuff and making it better than it was when new. that seat covering looks exactly like something from my past. That is a popular look for cushions on deck furniture.

These two are finished. DSC_2236 by Larry Madsen, on Flickr The other stool, with the back and seat cushion, will be a tad more complex. I'll get on that one next.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. Even though this is not some high tech re-do project, I appreciate it.
I just talked to my upholstery shop about the seat cushion for the other stool.
I'm going to install some T-nuts in the seat platform for a more secure attachment to the stool frame before I take it in.
I suppose I could recover it myself, but they will do it better than I can and it will not cost me much.
I've been sanding and getting started painting on the frame.

Got'em. The upholsterer put my seat cushion together very quickly today. We can call this silly stool thread done with. DSC_2238 by Larry Madsen, on Flickr This is my old desk chair which was transitioned into the Music Room seat maybe a couple of years ago. The arms and back broke loose, so I changed it up a bit and made it useful again. It works pretty well in that it has the casters and height adjustment. DSC_2239 by Larry Madsen, on Flickr
