I have a well meaning friend from the days of yore, who tends to lean into mind boggling conspiracies and urban myths (that happen to be real!). He keeps his finger on the pulse of things usually shared only between those in straitjackets and people who listen to late night AM radio, their heads double wrapped in tin foil. It's a good thing I'm on his e-mail list, or I would be ignorant of the malevolent contrails in the sky and the hum of black helicopters hovering in my neighborhood. Not sure whether he's home at the moment, but if not, he sure isn't out camping ............ he warned about ........... myvalleynews.com/san-bernardino-national-forest-says-flyers-warning-of-satanic-cult-activity-are-fake/

tends to lean into mind boggling conspiracies and urban myths While I would imagine there is a small thread of validity in **some** theories and myths, in my opinion the populace's infatuation with them is in great part responsible for the mess the country is in. Reality orientation would be a big help in righting the ship.

IMO, thinking that you're part of some elite club that "knows what's really going on" and is more enlightened than the rest of us "sheeple" is a really comforting ego boost to people who don't have much going for them. It's like a drug to some people, and they will stubbornly cling to these theories even in the face of overwhelming evidence. After all, the evidence is part of the conspiracy too, and the scientists who gathered it are "in on it".
So convenient.

While I don't condone this activity, after spending a week in the woods camping I can see why someone would do this. There are twice as many people out there this year as in the past. Probably due to the fact that the Government is paying people not to work so why not go camping. Most people here in Montana go camping with lots of guns so the "cult" would likely be the one in danger.

I'm sure that when it comes to complicated conspiracy busking, my old friend thinks that Occam's Razor is something produced by either Schick or Gilette.

I have a problem with fake reports like the cult camping one in the link. My problem is that I do not understand the motivation. I've asked this of others before and the usual answer is they want to frighten people and when they say that to me I respond by pointing out they still have not answered the question. Why do they want to frighten people? What is the motivation? What is in it for them? Then someone will say they get their jollies scaring people and I come back with will you please stop avoiding the question? What's in it for them? What's the motivation? I have known malicious people in my life; people who love to torment others. I have seen and sometimes even been the target of hundreds of different ways for people to torment others and they all have one thing in common without exception. The tormentor always needs to see the person he/she is tormenting squirm or cry or whatever. They don't do their thing and then fail to watch the results of their handiwork. Trying to scare people out of the woods is not because someone gets their jollies because there is nobody to watch squirm. Nobody shows up to watch. That does not compute for a tormentor. There's no point. I don't buy it. I do not accept that as an answer because it is not plausible. Anyone who was witnessed a hateful tormenting person at work knows with 100% certainty that this is not a plausible scenario. Even if it is not hateful but just a funny prank it is still the same thing. They need to see their victim react. This is human nature. It's how we're built. I want to know what the motivation is for someone to scare people out of the woods with a BS story. It has to be something else.

my grampa taught me that it is impolite and dangerous to talk about women, religion, and politics in public, so i don't.
i have seen my friends that have been friends for years become enemies over things in the news... based on the version of conspiracy they choose to believe.
i'm like Doc Holiday... i don't have so many friends that i want to risk losing so i've made it a rule that i'm a NO POLITICS zone I don't talk about it. YET, i continuously receive links and videos from people trying to convince me THEY'RE the truth. I'm amazed how people can take the SAME story and spin it so convincingly that i'm unable to detect which is the truth. I have decided the truth is what one PREFERS to hear...
my gramma used to say "time will tell us the truth"... but this truth may not be understood for decades.

"It's not just late-night radio." Oh, the charlatans are everywhere. If it's marketable, it's a business. Here's one curent example: The Zorb! thezorb.com/blog/It absorbs harmful radiation. Well, if that's how it works, how does the RF get past it to connect with anything else in the vicinity? They failed to explain this. What this product fails to deliver is (1) actual science, and (2) the truth. I'm certain more than a few of the celebrity endorsers know better--but they'd rather rip off their own fans than speak truth--which nakes then shysters. There's a HUGE market for feel-good products backed up by fake science. Another one like this is the Hapbee: hapbee.com"Every molecule has a unique electrostatic surface potential. This potential is critically important for how a molecule interacts with proteins and other biological agents. Electron and charge transfer is central to many biological processes and is a direct result of interacting surface potentials." Wow. I am overwhelminated by the scientitiousness of their descriptivations! Where's my credit card?! Stupid people are everywhere.

OMG, my ex's friend bought in, hook line and sinker to the "cell phone RF shield" gimmick. For something like $18.95, you got a daisy-shaped foil sticker that had a hole in it that you placed over the speaker hole on your flip phone. She bought them for all her friends and family, including me. My harsh reaction to her gullibility probably contributed to the end of her speaking to me.

This RF thing extends to the people who refuse to put the phone to the head but hold it hand held, and use speaker phone even in crowded places. I always ask how their friends lip fungus is going.

the populace's infatuation with them is in great part responsible for the mess the country is in The country was doing just fine in January -- then we were treated to a novel virus thanks to China and months of rioting because it's an election year and no one wants to push the nasty narrative that law enforcement is necessary in this country. Yeah -- this all happened because some people believe in Bigfoot.

Remember all the "scientific" devices for cars years ago, that were guaranteed to cut gas usage? This one saves 10 percent. That one saves 15 percent. By the time you got them all installed, you would have needed to haul a tanker trailer around behind your car, to collect all the extra gasoline that was bubbling up out of the engine, which was now operating at 160 percent efficiency.
These days if you want to experience product nonsense/hypocrisy, just take a stroll down the aisles containing thousands of nutritional supplements and marvel at where $35 billion a year goes.... in one end and out the other.

There are actual people that believe the current pandemic is caused by radiation energy from 5G towers.
Oddly enough, they're not even mildly concerned about radiation energy from the sun--which proves how little they know about radiation.

The country was doing just fine in January Hmmmmmm...well...not in all quarters. I live in a poor community in a very poor state. My guess is you'd get a different angle from many of our citizens. Yeah -- this all happened because some people believe in Bigfoot. And everybody knows (I would think, by now...) that Bigfoot was the victim of an alien abduction. He's being cloned so as to bring back to earth a new dominant species. They plan to land in...of course...right here at home...in Roswell, NM. Followed closely by Felix Baumgartner.
