Budget busters for me, for the last few years have been international travel, audio gear, and digital cameras and lenses.
Music gear has definitely receded. Last purchase in that category was a Players series tele (Lake Placid Blue) in December 2019. Came ]thisclose[ to buying a Deluxe Reverb Tone Master in March but in the end sent it back (a tough decision).
I feel like I may have reached the end. Can't see upgrading my audio gear which I love and run every day, nearly all day. Satisfied with the camera gear, of which I have waaaaay toooooo much but use it frequently. It fully covers the waterfront for me.
You know something's always going to come along (hopefully not in the area of medical bills, massive home or car repair). But at least for now, until the world heads back to some degree of normalcy, I do not see much in the way of budget busters on the horizon.

We broke the budget to buy our last boat, but at least we paid cash. With retirement looming in the next few years, I've been trying to focus my interests. I sold off a couple motorcycles that were gathering dust, and music gear that I bought specifically for the RnR band I quit last winter is slowly being sold off. The last music-related purchase was a Gibson J-35, which was at least partially funded by electric gear sales. I see nothing more on the horizon, short of sailing-related equipment, which makes my wife happy.

our budget busters were necessary home repairs; New Roof; and total Bathroom renewal (down to studs) made necessary by bursting original galvanized pipes in the floors and walls. Still recovering. At least home insurance helped pay for the damage done to the Kitchen, which is below the bathroom. It required a new ceiling and environmental remediation. (treat everything in joists for possible black mold. Oh did I mention that during the Bathroom renovation the hot water heater went, when it rains it pours.

With my pending retirement in a few weeks , I’ve spent the last 5 or so years whittling down my finances to frugal portions. I did just buy an SG but paid cash and have all that I need in gear. Both cars are paid off and I don’t have any credit card debt . Even now I’m still looking at ways to cut budget. We’ll be fine if I don’t do anything , but it can always improve , right?

I don't buy music gear anymore. Haven't in probably 10 years. I have nearly a dozen guitars and a half dozen amps. I do play them, but don't need more.
My budget busters have been international travel (was going to drop $25k going to Australia, but the trip got cancelled). I used that money to build a really nice retaining wall in my backyard. My new (to me) house is definitely my budget buster right now. We've gotten the heavy hitters done though, so once covid 19 is in the rear view mirror, maybe we can reconsider some travel....

It’s been music gear for me.
I did add a really nice little Canon P&S at the end of the year, though. Tremendous performance from a 1” sensor - in a pocket camera format.

I had to do serious thinning of guitars, basses and amps when I retired in 2017. So no purchases until about a year ago when I joined a mummers string band. I bought a cheap six-string banjo, then a nice plectrum banjo.
One of the instruments I had gotten rid of was my late brother's six string banjo. It was a better-quality instrument than my current sixer. At the time I just didn't have the space and didn't see me needing a banjo ever again. I still miss some of the stuff I gave up.

The Super Reverb RI I recently bought and camera gear seem to be my main busters.

I am fortunate enough to now have just about all the things I wanted all those years ago when I didn't have anything or any money. Some of them could be better quality I suppose but they work well enough. Will need a car in a few years time. ....what's this romance ýou talk about ?

No new gear for awhile. Docs putting me on Entresto which is supposed to be very good but it is expensive. My out of pocket expense will go up about $1500/yr.

....what's this romance ýou talk about ? Romance is the pitch, hope is the trigger, money is the motive. There is no romance involved other than lies as callous as “I will make a good mom for your daughter.” Although in retrospect the panic that seemed to pop up if you say you’re looking at air fares to meet in person is mildly entertaining.

“Send me your address and I’ll ship you one of my stuffed armadillos.” 🏆 Perhaps I should include a signed picture of me in the viking suit.

Don’t forget the horny helmet. How about sitting in the horn chair with just a bear skin rug?

Whichever you think conveys the true you. 👍 I should probably stop there. The next budget buster for somebody is likely going to be therapy.

Retired from my job June 1 2020. Just sold three guitars, can't go anywhere. I've been doing home projects that I've had on hold while I was a working stiff. Inexpensive but time consuming. So far I've been doing more saving over spending.
