I've primarily been a solo acoustic cover guy. I've stayed plenty busy over the last few years, and did some DJ gigs for pals weddings on the side. Does anyone here DJ? Tips, tricks, resources? I got some software and a Traktor controller last year and have been working with it. I'm starting to get some traction and welcome any tips or tricks from seasoned pros.

One of the things that the old FDP did not allow was flaming. So far, I have not seen any flaming on Moe's 2.0.
But any suggestion of DJ'ing with this crowd might incite some flame. This is definitely the "live music is best" bunch. :^)

I always try to push business to one of my bands or another live band where appropriate, but there are instances where a DJ is needed. To that end I admit that I DJ from time to time. For me it's a way to pick up a few extra bucks here and there and make use of some of my PA gear. Most of what I earn I sink back into more gear. Flame away.

To be truthful, DJ's have actually been good for my classical ensemble's wedding business. A local city plus a town have strict noise (entertainment) ordinances which prohibit recorded (DJ) music from being played outdoors at established wedding venues. When a wedding books a DJ for the reception and the ceremony is on site, but outdoors, the DJ cannot do it (do the the ordinance).....thus, if the couple wants music for their ceremony and outdoor Chickentail hour, its gotta be live. By the way, the local city is Newport, RI (May through October Npt. averages 30 weddings per weekend..)

Haven't DJ'ed in 45 years.
It was so long ago that besides turntables and a dual cassette deck we actually used an 8-track deck. Cueing up tunes on an 8-track was a challenge.
