Cliff notes, for about 6 weeks had some chest pain on and off, had a stress test scheduled for Fri. 7/17, went in, test started, (a chemical induced stress mode).
As soon as the chemical kicked in the Dr's eyes all popped wide open, they immediately stopped the test and shipped me directly to a heart hospital by ambulance.
Had open heart surgery next day 7/18.
I had quad bypass, 90% blockage. Harvested veins from my legs for it.
Got released home 7/22. Doing pretty good overall, getting around and such.
Guess you never know, ehwhat?
I had no prior heart issues, age 61, 6 ft tall, 145 lbs, reasonably good diet, non smoker.
I'll have to be on top of this the rest of my life.

Glad you're on the mend. I noticed that you weren't posting, now I know why.
All those risk factors you mentioned, or lack thereof, may have gotten you through this ordeal.
How's your energy?

Hope you are feeling better. Risk factors are just that, they increase your risk. Not having them doesn’t make your risk zero, as you are an example of.
I am glad things went well, do what the doctor tells you to and keep feeling better!!

Energy is returning pretty good so far, just have to get my breathing capacity up to snuff. Got 2 toys I have to breath into every hour for lung exercise.

Yikes!! That's crazy. But sounds like a quick turnaround. Just keep it going. Yeah....VERY quick, everyone at the hospital was surprised how fast I bounced back. I'm glad I did too, as the food and bed was just horrible there, I would've starved and suffered from lack of sleep in no time.

Glad you are doing OK.
Open heart surgeries have cone a long way since I first worked with a new postop patient 41 years ago. Patients stayed in the hospital for at least a week, usually longer.

So glad to hear that you're on the road to recovery. Keep on rockin'!
Now aren't you glad you turned down being on that manned mission to Mars? Things could have turned dicey, 30 million miles into the trip!

Having been through this I can share a couple things with you.
1. Your leg will hurt worse than anything else while you're recovering. 2. Make sure you religiously do the breathing exercises they give you to do at home. Your lungs really need it. 3. One morning you will wake up and all of a sudden your chest wall will be all healed and feel fine. That awful shifting feeling and horrible pain and uncomfortable movement when you lie down, sneeze or laugh will just magically disappear at some point. 4. When all the healing from surgery is finally done you will feel so good that you will realize just how sick you were before and didn't know it. This thing creeps on you so gradually that it just becomes the norm. Now that everything is functioning the right way and you're going to be amazed at just how good you'll feel but it will take a few months to recover from all of it. 5. DO YOUR WALKING!! It will really help. If it's too hot to walk outside, find a nice air-conditioned indoor mall to go to and walk laps indoors, and get into a cardiac rehab class if you can.
Best wishes!

I‘be had two bypass surgeries. I started with the coronary artery disease when I was 39, 6’0”, 160lbs. Unfortunately had a massive heart attack. Long story short, 28 years later I am battling Stage IV Congestive Heart Failure. I tell you this because I’m still here after all I’ve been through. You have a huge advantage in that you don’t have damage to your heart that can cause the Heart Failure. Follow the doctors recommendations and take things seriously and chances are good that you can live a long, pretty normal life.
I’m not done either! I go on Entresto next month and have my 1st appointment with the transplant surgeon in September.

My wife's dad had a similar experience -- just reinforces my advice for all of us to have regular medical check-ups. Never know what they'll find (in my own case, it was cancer - now thankfully, well in the rear view mirror).

WOW..in spite of the emergency nature of your sitution, that is the ideal way to discover there's a problem with the heart.
You dodged a huge bullet, brother.
Mojo for a speedy recovery. Take your meds, do what the docs say, and get back to playing guitar as soon as they let you!

Best wishes for a full recovery - I had open heart surgery almost exactly 1 year ago - I feel just about normal now (I'm 68 so I mean normal for that age ...) but it took a while, 10 days in hospital, 3 months of rehab exercises and yes as others have recommended, do do the lung exercises - they are important !. Although my problems were different from yours, as K9BigDog said you will get back to a level of fitness you had long ago. Success and stay healthy.

Heal well. My father in law's world came to a screeching halt when he went code blue between the golf course and hospital. He was 59, had the surgery (actually 2) and had a long and happy retirement. And that was with 1980's medicine, so better start planning on those next 3 or 4 decades.
